Diane Szmiett
Diane Szmiett (born September 17, 1990) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. She placed tenth at the 2010 Four Continents Championships and won two medals on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series in 2008. Career Szmiett began skating at age seven because her friend was a skater. After becoming the 2006 Canadian national junior champion, she was sent to the 2006 World Junior Championships, where she finished 21st. The following season, she began competing on the senior level nationally but remained a junior internationally. In 2008, Szmiett won silver and bronze medals at her two JGP events in Courchevel, France and South Africa. She was assigned to the 2009 World Junior Championships and placed 13th. In the 2009—10 season, Szmiett began competing as a senior internationally. She received one senior Grand Prix assignment, the 2009 Cup of China, where she finished eighth. "Maria" is a song from the 1957 Broadway musical ''West Side Story'', sung by the lead character Tony. The music was written by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Originally written in B major by Bernstein – but later lowered a half step to Bb major for the Original Broadway production – which then modulates to D major respectively. ''Suite bergamasque'' ( L. 75) () is a piano suite by Claude Debussy. He began composing it around 1890, at the age of 28, but significantly revised it just before its 1905 publication. Philip Glass
Philip Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American composer and pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. ''The Illusionist'' is a 2006 American romantic mystery film written and directed by Neil Burger, and starring Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel. It is based loosely on Steven Millhauser's short story "Eisenheim the Illusionist". The film tells the story of Eisenheim, a magician in turn-of-the-century Vienna, who reunites with his childhood love, a woman far above his social standing. ''Cinema Paradiso'' ( it, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, , literally "New Paradise Cinema") is a 1988 coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. Set in a small Sicilian town, the film centers on the friendship between a young boy and an aging projectionist who works at the titular movie theatre. Pepe Romero (born March 8, 1944, in Málaga, Spain) is a classical and flamenco guitarist. Biography Early life Pepe Romero was born in Spain, the second son of celebrated guitarist and composer Celedonio Romero, who was his only guitar teacher. His first professional appearance was in a shared concert with his father at the Teatro Lope de Vega, Seville, when Pepe was only seven years old, playing a gavotte by Bach and ''Sevilla'' by Albéniz. ''Anastasia: Music from the Motion Picture'' is the soundtrack for the 1997 Fox Animation Studios film ''Anastasia''. It contains songs from the film written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, selections of the original score composed by David Newman, and performed by Liz Callaway, Jim Cummings, Jonathan Dokuchitz and Kelsey Grammer, among others, and features singles by Aaliyah and Deana Carter, and a duet with Richard Marx and Donna Lewis, along with tracks from the film's score composed by Newman. It was released on October 28, 1997, on CD and audio cassette. The songs "Journey to the Past" and "Once Upon a December" were given nominations from the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. "Once Upon a December" is a song from the 1997 Fox Animation Studios film ''Anastasia''. The song was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. About song The song and its lyrics are heard three times through the course of the story, twice as a lullaby, and once as a complete song with a bridge. The lullaby is heard first during the film's prologue (performed by Angela Lansbury as the Dowager Empress Marie, and Lacey Chabert as the young Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia), then as an a cappella version toward the end of the film when the Dowager Empress and the adult Anastasia are reunited (sung by Lansbury, and Liz Callaway as Anastasia).
