Eugène Devic
Eugène Devic (October 24, 1858 – 1930) was a French neurologist who was a native of Lyon. He studied medicine in Lyon under internist Léon Bouveret (1850-1929). Later he was associated with the "Hôpital de la Croix-Rousse" and the "Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon". Devic performed research of numerous neurological disorders, including infantile chorea, cerebral glioma and tumors of the corpus callosum. He was also involved with studies of typhoid fever and mental aspects associated with the disease. In 1894 Devic and his student Fernand Gault described a rare nervous condition that affected the spinal cord and optic nerves that resembled multiple sclerosis. Émilien Devic
Émilien Devic (16 November 1888 – 21 August 1944) was a French footballer. He played in nine matches for the France national football team from 1911 to 1921. He was also named in France's squad for the football tournament at the 1912 Summer Olympics, but the French side withdrew from the competition. Devics
Formed in 1993, Devics (stylized as Dēvics) is an American indie rock band from Los Angeles, California, United States, consisting of Sara Lov, Dustin O'Halloran, Ed Maxwell, Theodore Liscinski, and Evan Schnabel. Their music can be described as melancholic. They have been largely inactive since 2006 History Lov and O'Halloran formed the Devics in 1993, they were based in Los Angeles. In 1996, the band released its debut album, ''Buxom'', on their own record label Splinter Records. They recorded their second album late 1997 early 1998, with it being released later in 1998. In 2001, The song ''Key'' is performed by the band in the bar called The Bronze in ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' during the fifth season, in an episode titled "Crush". The song's lyrics relate to the character Spike's struggle to overcome the pain of being a true vampire, which is caused by a chip implanted in his brain by a government agency. The Devič Monastery ( sr, Манастир Девич, Manastir Devič; sq, Manastiri i Deviçit) is a Serbian Orthodox abbey in Kosovo. It was built in 1434 and is dedicated to St Joanikije of Devič. Devič was declared Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1990, and it is protected by the Republic of Serbia. History The founder of the monastery is Despot Đurađ Branković, who had it built in memory of his daughter. In the Ottoman census from 1455, the monastery is mentioned as the church of the Theotokos (dedicated to The Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple). During Turkish occupation the monastery was pulled down, but the church and the site with the grave of St. Joanikije was reconstructed, and was painted in 1578. The monastery was destroyed and burnt down during World War II in 1941 by forces of the Albanian Fascist Party, the prior Damaskin Bošković was killed, and Italian troops disassembled the two big bells and took them away in 1942. Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), including neuromyelitis optica (NMO), are autoimmune diseases characterized by acute inflammation of the optic nerve (optic neuritis, ON) and the spinal cord (myelitis). Episodes of ON and myelitis can be simultaneous or successive. A relapsing disease course is common, especially in untreated patients. In more than 80% of cases, NMO is caused by immunoglobulin G Autoantibody, autoantibodies to aquaporin 4 (anti-AQP4 diseases, anti-AQP4), the most abundant Aquaporin, water channel protein in the central nervous system. A subset of anti-AQP4-negative cases is associated with antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (Anti-MOG associated encephalomyelitis, anti-MOG).
