Detroit Lakes High School
Detroit Lakes High School is a public high school located in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, United States. It serves approximately 870 students and is a part of the Detroit Lakes Public Schools system. The school colors are red and white and the athletic teams are known as "The Lakers". It is the largest high school in Becker County. The original school was Holmes School(K-12), founded 1895, named after Elon G. Holmes. In 1980, Holmes school was turned into the Historic Holmes theater and the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center, and Detroit lakes high school was formed. Detroit Lakes is a city in the State of Minnesota and the county seat of Becker County. The population was 9,869 at the 2020 census. Its unofficial population during summer months is much higher, estimated by citizens to peak at 13,000 midsummers, due to seasonal residents and tourists. U.S. Highways 10 and 59, and Minnesota State Highway 34 serve as the primary routes through the city. Detroit Lakes is located 45 miles east of the Fargo–Moorhead ND-MN statistical metropolitan area. Becker County
Becker County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 35,183. Its county seat is Detroit Lakes. Part of the White Earth Indian Reservation extends into the county. The county was created in 1858 and organized in 1871. History Becker County became a county on March 18, 1858. It was named for George Loomis Becker, one of three men elected to Congress when Minnesota became a state. Since Minnesota could only send two, Becker elected to stay behind, and he was promised to have a county named after him. Colonel George Johnston founded the city of Detroit Lakes in 1871. Jeff Johnson (Minnesota Politician)
Jeff Johnson (born November 11, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician. He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2000 and served there from 2001 to 2007. Johnson left the legislature to run for state attorney general in 2006, but was defeated. Johnson served as a Hennepin County commissioner for the 7th district from 2009 to 2021. He was elected as the Republican National Committeeman from Minnesota in April 2011.
