Detainees Of The September 2022 Iranian Protests
This list reports the notable citizens, civil and political activists, students, journalists, lawyers and athletes who have been arrested in Iran during the ongoing protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022. There is no clear information about the whereabouts and the situation of many of them. The arrests come on top of severe internet restrictions and blocking of apps including Instagram and WhatsApp, which activists say is aimed at preventing details of the protests from reaching the outside world. Katayoun Riahi ( fa, کتایون ریاحی; born ) is an Iranian actress. She has received various accolades, including three Hafez Awards, in addition to nomination for an Iran Cinema Celebration Award. Death Of Mahsa Amini
On 16 September 2022, the 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, also known as Jina Amini,; ku, ژینا ئەمینی, Jîna Emînî died in a hospital in Tehran, Iran, under suspicious circumstances. The Guidance Patrol, the religious morality police of Iran's government, arrested Amini for allegedly not wearing the hijab in accordance with government standards. The Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that she had a heart attack at a police station, collapsed, and fell into a coma before being transferred to a hospital. However, eyewitnesses, including women who were detained with Amini, reported that she was severely beaten and that she died as a result of police brutality, which was denied by the Iranian authorities. Elaheh Mohammadi ( fa, الهه محمدی) is an Iranian journalist who reports on society and women's issues for the daily ''Ham-Mihan'' newspaper. She has also worked with state-controlled media outlets such as ''Shahrvand'', Khabar Online and Etemad Online in the past years. ''Time'' magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023. Mohammadi was arrested by Iranian security forces in September 2022 for reporting on Mahsa Amini's funeral. Bahareh Hedayat ( fa, بهاره هدایت, born 1981) is an Iranian activist and campaigner for women's rights. She was one of the activists who worked on the One Million Signatures campaign to change laws that discriminate against women in Iran. She has been arrested and imprisoned several times.
