Desiree Glaubitz (born 24 September 1979 in Traralgon) is an Australian basketball player, captain of the Bulleen Boomers in the Women's National Basketball League. Desi is 177 centimetres tall and plays guard. Traralgon ( ) is a town located in the east of the Latrobe Valley in the Gippsland region of Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia and the most populous city of the City of Latrobe. The urban population of Traralgon at the was 26,907. The Melbourne Boomers are an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The Boomers compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play the majority of their home games at Melbourne Sports Centre – Parkville and the State Basketball Centre. The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) competed in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) as a team of the AIS Athletes. They won the WNBL Championship just once, in the 1998–99 WNBL season, led by a young Lauren Jackson. The team continued to compete in the WNBL through the 2011–12 season, but withdrew at the end of that season. Townsville Fire
The Townsville Fire are an Australian professional female basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). They are the only female professional sporting team of any discipline in the northern half of Australia. The team was established in 2001 by Townsville Basketball Inc. In 2014, James Cook University became the team's principal partner and naming rights sponsor. Following the 2010/11 season, the Fire were seemingly doomed, folding under the weight of financial pressures before an 11th hour resurrection. Prior to the 2011/12 season, the team became a not-for-profit, community owned entity.
