Townsville Fire
The Townsville Fire are an Australian professional female basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). They are the only female professional sporting team of any discipline in the northern half of Australia. The team was established in 2001 by Townsville Basketball Inc. In 2014, James Cook University became the team's principal partner and naming rights sponsor. Following the 2010/11 season, the Fire were seemingly doomed, folding under the weight of financial pressures before an 11th hour resurrection. Prior to the 2011/12 season, the team became a not-for-profit, community owned entity. The Fire reached four straight WNBL Grand Finals between 2012/13 and 2015/16, winning back-to-back championships in 2015 and 2016. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). The 2007–08 WNBL season was the 28th season of competition since its establishment in 1981. A total of 10 teams contested the league. The regular season was played between October 2007 and March 2008, followed by a post-season involving the top five in March 2008. Broadcast rights were held by free-to-air network ABC. South East Queensland Stars
The South East Queensland Stars were an Australian professional basketball team that competed in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) for one season. The team was based in the South East Queensland city of Logan. History The South East Queensland Stars were founded in March 2015 and entered the WNBL in the 2015–16 season. Perth Lynx
The Perth Lynx are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Lynx compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play their home games at Bendat Basketball Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Northern Star Resources Perth Lynx. The Lynx were established in 1988 as the Perth Breakers. After being owned and operated by Basketball Western Australia from 2001 to 2015, the Perth Wildcats took over ownership and operation of the team for a period of five years. Chris Lucas (basketball)
Chris Lucas (born 27 March 1992) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Oakleigh Cannons in the NPL Victoria. Lucas played for Gold Coast United for the A-League in 2011-12 season and made his professional debut on 22 January 2012 against Sydney FC. Lucas did play for Olympic FC in the National Premier Leagues Queensland. Club career Palm Beach At the age of 5 he signed for Gold Coast Premier League side Palm Beach. He was signed for Gold Coast on the back of a stellar season which saw him score 23 in only just 19 games. Gold Coast United In 2011, he signed a youth contract with A-League club Gold Coast United. Dandenong Rangers
The Dandenong Rangers were an Australian professional women's basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League ( WNBL). The club is based in Dandenong, Melbourne, Victoria. The team was founded as the Dandenong Rangers, however before the 2019–20 WNBL season began the team was rebranded to the Southside Flyers, adopting a new logo, colour scheme and nickname. Bendigo Spirit
Bendigo Spirit is one of three Victorian basketball teams in the Australian Women's National Basketball League. The team, based in the regional city of Bendigo, Victoria, joined the competition from the 2007/08 season. History The Bendigo Spirit were formed in 2007 and started playing out of Bendigo Stadium, the first side based in regional Victoria. Coached by Bernie Harrower, the team was led by his daughter, Australian Opal and captain, Kristi Harrower.
