Derry Gowen
Derry Gowen (1 February 1933 – 6 December 2017) was an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer, Gaelic Athletic Association administrator, referee and selector. Playing career Gowen played as a juvenile in the first North Cork Hurling Championship in 1946. He won minor hurling and football North Cork Championships with St. Patrick's, Fermoy and also won a Junior Hurling Championship with the club. Coaching career Gowen was a selector when the Cork minor football team won their very first All-Ireland MFC title in 1961. He later served as a selector with the Avondhu divisional senior football and hurling teams and was also senior hurling team trainer when Avondhu won the 1966 Cork SHC title. Gowen was also a selector with the Cork senior football team when they won the All-Ireland SFC title in 1973. Fermoy
Fermoy () is a town on the River Blackwater in east County Cork, Ireland. As of the 2016 census, the town and environs had a population of approximately 6,500 people. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Con Murphy (Valley Rovers Hurler)
Cornelius "Con" Murphy (28 October 1922 – 29 April 2007) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-back at senior level for the Cork county team. Murphy joined the team during the 1942 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1951 championship. During that time, he won four All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals, and one National League medal. Murphy was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Murphy had a lengthy career with Valley Rovers while he also played with divisional side Carrigdhoun. Once retired from playing, Murphy became a referee at the highest levels. He also served as a Gaelic games administrator with the Cork County Board before assuming the office of President of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1976. Jack Barrett (hurler)
John Barrett (1 January 1911 – 16 February 1979) was an Irish hurling, hurler, selector and Administrator (business), administrator. His career included All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland Championship victories as a player and later as a selector with the Cork senior hurling team. Playing career Kinsale Barrett first played for the Kinsale GAA, Kinsale club at adult level in the late 1920s. Munster Minor Football Championship
The Munster Minor Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1928 for the youngest competitors (under-18) in the province of Munster in Ireland. It is currently sponsored by Electric Ireland and therefore officially known as the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Football Minor Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Munster final currently being played on the second Sunday in July. The minor final provides the curtain-raiser to the senior final. The 1961 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship was the 30th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament for boys under the age of 18. Galway entered the championship as defending champions, however, they were defeated in the Connacht Championship. On 24 September 1961, Cork won the championship following a 3-7 to 0-5 defeat of Mayo in the All-Ireland final. This was their first All-Ireland title.
