Derek Lyng
Derek Thomas Lyng (born 4 July 1978) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He has been manager of the Kilkenny senior hurling team since 2022. Playing career Waterford Institute of Technology As a student at the Waterford Institute of Technology, Lyng joined the senior hurling team during his second year but found it difficult to break onto the starting fifteen. On 28 February 1999, he won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal after coming on as a substitute in the 4–15 to 3–12 defeat of University College Cork in the final. Emeralds Lyng joined the Emeralds club in Urlingford at a young age and played in all grades at juvenile and underage levels. He enjoyed championship success in the minor grade before eventually joining the club's top adult team in the Kilkenny Junior Championship. Emeralds GAA
Emeralds GAA is a junior Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Urlingford, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and almost exclusively fields teams in hurling. They spent 14 seasons in intermediate grade in Kilkenny before being relegated in 2015 back to the junior grade. History In the early years of the 20th, century hurling was very strong in the parish of Urlingford with three teams competing. – Graine, Urlingford and Clomanta. Despite large competition, it was clear that a unified parish hurling team would provide a stronger and more capable force to compete against the larger parishes of the county. Peter Barry (hurler)
Peter Joseph Barry (born 24 November 1974) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Kilkenny, Barry first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of nineteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 1996 championship. Barry later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won three All-Ireland medals, five Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team, Barry won one Railway Cup medal as a non-playing substitute. At club level he is a one-time All-Ireland-winning captain with James Stephens. In addition to this he has also won two Leinster medals and two championship medals. The 1999 All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship was the 16th staging of the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1961. The championship began on 30 May 1999 and ended on 25 September 1999. Limerick entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Waterford in the Munster first round. The All-Ireland final was played on 25 September 1999 at St. Brendan's Park in Birr, between Galway and Kilkenny, in what was their first ever meeting in the final.
