Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1924 represents the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for fifty three years. It was their twenty sixth season in the County Championship and they failed to win a match, finishing seventeenth in the County Championship. 1924 season Guy Jackson was in his third season as captain. After a steady rise since in the championship table since the low point of 1920, the team slumped to the bottom again in 1924 without winning a match. Jackson himself was top scorer, and Billy Bestwick took most wickets with 65. Players making their debut were Fred Heath brother of John, and Archibald Ackroyd both of whom played in a later season, but in few matches overall. This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. However the club continued to play first class counties and most of the players carried on with the club. John Heath (cricketer, Born 1891)
John Stanley Heath (30 August 1891 – 1 September 1972) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Europeans cricket team, Europeans in India in 1918/19 and for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derbyshire in 1924 and 1925. Heath was born at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. He played minor counties cricket for Staffordshire County Cricket Club, Staffordshire from 1911 to 1914. He made his first-class debut in 1918 playing for Europeans in the Bombay Quadrangular tournament in India when he achieved his best bowling performance of 5 for 33 against Hindus cricket team, Hindus and also 5 for 40 against Parsees cricket team, Parsees. Essex County Cricket Club
Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. Founded in 1876, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895, since then the team has played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Essex currently play all their home games at the County Cricket Ground, Chelmsford. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Nottinghamshire. The club's limited overs team is called the Notts Outlaws. The county club was founded in 1841, although teams had played first-class cricket under the Nottinghamshire name since 1835. The county club has always held first-class status. Arthur Morton (cricketer, Born 1883)
Arthur Morton (7 May 1883 – 18 December 1935) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) between 1903 and 1926. He made over 10,000 runs and took nearly 1,000 wickets. Morton was born at Mellor, Derbyshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in May 1903 against MCC when he was out for a duck in both innings and took the only wicket in the second innings before MCC won. He played six matches in 1903 taking a total of 3 wickets with a top score of 22. However, in 1904 he played 17 matches, but only took six wickets and made a top score of 56. In 1905 his bowling picked up and he started to improve his run total, but it was 1907 before he managed his first 5 wicket innings. He managed another 5 wicket innings in 1908 but in 1909 took five 5-wicket innings with a best performance of 6–38. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Gloucestershire. Founded in 1870, Gloucestershire have always been first-class and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club played its first senior match in 1870 and W. G. Grace was their captain. The club plays home games at the Bristol County Ground in the Bishopston area of north Bristol. Jim Hutchinson
James Metcalf Hutchinson (29 November 1896 – 7 November 2000) was an English first-class cricketer who played more than 250 matches for Derbyshire County Cricket Club between 1920 and 1931. Until September 2018, when John Manners took the record, Hutchinson's unique claim to fame was that, of all first-class cricketers around the world, he was the longest-lived whose age had been incontestably established. All but one of Hutchinson's 256 first-class matches were for Derbyshire. He was also selected for a Gentlemen v Players match at Blackpool in 1924, though neither team was of the strength usually sent out in the Lord's and Scarborough fixtures at this time, and the game was over in less than two days. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Sir John Berry Hobbs (16 December 1882– 21 December 1963), always known as Jack Hobbs, was an English professional cricketer who played for Surrey from 1905 to 1934 and for England in 61 Test matches between 1908 and 1930. James Horsley (4 January 1890 – 13 February 1976) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire in 1913 and for Derbyshire from 1914 to 1925 Horsley was born at Melbourne, Derbyshire. He made his first-class debut for Nottinghamshire in June 1913 against Yorkshire, when he took 2 wickets in the first innings, but never had the chance to bat. He managed three no balls and two wides in the match. In his second match against Hampshire he was stumped for a duck, took no wickets, and bowled four wides. He played one more match for Nottinghamshire against Middlesex, when he took a wicket but gave away no extras.
