Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1913 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for forty two years. It was their nineteenth season in the County Championship and they won four matches to finish thirteenth in the Championship table. 1913 season Derbyshire played eighteen matches which were all in the County Championship. After winning their first three matches convincingly the team's form declined and they did not win again until the last match of the season. Richard Baggallay was in his first year as captain. Leonard Oliver scored most runs and Thomas Forrester took most wickets. First class cricket was suspended for the duration of the war, and most of the new players in the season had their potential limitied after 1914. This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. However the club continued to play first class counties and most of the players carried on with the club. Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. Its T20 team is called the Birmingham Bears. Founded in 1882, the club held minor status until it was elevated to first-class in 1894 pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. John Corbett (cricketer)
Cornelius John Corbett (8 March 1883 – 10 April 1944) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1911 to 1924 Corbett was born in Thame, Oxfordshire one of three sons of Rev. Elijah Bagot Corbett and his wife Mary Anne née Davies. His father was Vicar of Thame from 1872 to 1893. Corbett became headmaster of "Rycote", a school on the Kedlestone Road, Derby, and later The Ashe at Etwall. Corbett made his first-class cricket debut for Derbyshire against Essex in August 1911, making 14 and 4 and bowling without taking a wicket. He played three more matches that season, and played regularly thereafter, usually in August during the school holidays. He did not play in 1914 and for the years until 1919 cricket was interrupted by the first world war. Corbett served as a lieutenant in the HAC. Frederick Bracey
Frederick Cecil Bracey (20 July 1887 – 28 March 1960) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1906 to 1914 Bracey was born at Glossop, Derbyshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1906 season, in June against Northamptonshire when he only had the chance to bowl seven balls, and was last man in, scoring 1 in his second innings. However he took three wickets in his next match against Warwickshire and continued to play regularly for Derbyshire until 1909 averaging 2 wickets per match. In the 1907 season, he took 5 for 102 against the South Africans, and then in one match against Northamptonshire took 5 for 9 in the first innings and 6 for 36 in the second. In the 1908 season, he took 5 for 66 against Lancashire. He only played half the 1910 season, and did not play at all in 1911. Arthur Morton (cricketer, Born 1883)
Arthur Morton (7 May 1883 – 18 December 1935) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) between 1903 and 1926. He made over 10,000 runs and took nearly 1,000 wickets. Morton was born at Mellor, Derbyshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in May 1903 against MCC when he was out for a duck in both innings and took the only wicket in the second innings before MCC won. He played six matches in 1903 taking a total of 3 wickets with a top score of 22. However, in 1904 he played 17 matches, but only took six wickets and made a top score of 56. In 1905 his bowling picked up and he started to improve his run total, but it was 1907 before he managed his first 5 wicket innings. He managed another 5 wicket innings in 1908 but in 1909 took five 5-wicket innings with a best performance of 6–38. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Nottinghamshire. The club's limited overs team is called the Notts Outlaws. The county club was founded in 1841, although teams had played first-class cricket under the Nottinghamshire name since 1835. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Founded in 1878, Northamptonshire (Northants) held minor status at first but was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship during the 1890s. Samuel Cadman
Samuel William Anthony Cadman (29 January 1877 – 6 May 1952) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire for over quarter of a century between 1900 and 1926. He was an effective all-rounder and scored over 14,000 runs and took over 800 wickets in his first-class career. Cadman was born at Werneth, Cheshire, the son of Samuel Cadman, a cotton mill overlooker, and his wife Elizabeth. They were shortly afterwards living at Tintwistle. Cadman made his debut for Derbyshire in May 1900 with an unnotable performance in a match against Lancashire. He played in two further matches that year, making his bowling debut against Surrey when he took a single wicket. He played five matches in 1901 but missed a season in 1902. Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Sussex. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. Fred Root
Charles Frederick Root (16 April 1890 – 20 January 1954) was an English cricketer who played for England in 1926 and for Derbyshire between 1910 and 1920 and for Worcestershire between 1921 and 1932. Early career Root was born in Somercotes, Derbyshire and initially served on ground staff of Leicestershire before beginning his first-class career for Derbyshire, making his debut in the 1910 season. He played for five seasons for Derbyshire before cricket was suspended in England because of World War I, doing very little apart from a couple of promising performances in 1913. During the war, Root was hit in the chest while serving as a dispatch rider, but recovered and resumed his cricketing career after the war.
