Derbyshire Children's Hospital
Derbyshire Children's Hospital is a children's hospital in Derby, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. It is managed by the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. It was the only entirely new children's hospital built in the UK in the twentieth century. History The hospital was established as the Derbyshire Hospital for Sick Children in a Victorian Era, Victorian building on North Street in 1877. It joined the National Health Service in 1948 and moved to a modern building on the Royal Derby Hospital site in 1996. It was the only entirely new children's hospital built in the UK in the twentieth century. The reception area's unique decoration and complex floor design were based on a cartoon seaside theme. Royal Derby Hospital
Royal Derby Hospital is one of two teaching hospitals in the city of Derby, the other being the London Road Community Hospital. It is managed by the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. History The original hospital on the site was the Derby City General Hospital, which was built in 1927 and latterly focused on maternity and children's care. The hospital, which had become quite dilapidated, was demolished in September 2006. A new hospital was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract to replace both the Derby City General Hospital and the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in 2003. The new hospital was built by Skanska at a cost of £333 million. It was opened by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in April 2010.
