The Department of Infrastructure ( gv, Rheynn Bun-Troggalys) is a department of the Isle of Man Government. History The department was created in April 2010 from the Department of Transport. John Shimmin
John Shimmin (born 1 July 1960) is a former Member of the House of Keys for Douglas West. Early life Shimmin was born in Douglas in 1960 and educated at St Ninian's High School and the Worcester College of Higher Education. He was then a teacher (Physical Education, Mathematics, General Studies) from 1982 in several areas of the UK - Crewe, Tamworth, Knowsley before returning to teach in Douglas (St Ninian’s High School) where he was also Head of Year from 1989-96 until entering politics. Political career Shimmin was elected as MHK for Douglas West in 1996 at his first attempt. He became Chairman of the Isle of Man Post Office in 1999 before becoming Minister of Transport in 2002. A general lighthouse authority (GLA) is one of three agencies primarily responsible for aids to navigation in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. They are divided into regions as follows: *Trinity House: England & Wales, Channel Islands and Gibraltar *Northern Lighthouse Board: Scotland and the Isle of Man *Commissioners of Irish Lights (the C.I.L.): the whole of Ireland A local lighthouse authority (LLA) is a port, harbour, or other party providing navigational aids in a locality as part of its facilities. Northern Lighthouse Board
The Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) is the general lighthouse authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man. It is a non-departmental public body responsible for marine navigation aids around coastal areas. History The NLB was formed by Act of Parliament in 1786 as the Commissioners of Northern Light Houses, largely at the urging of the lawyer and politician George Dempster ("Honest George"), to oversee the construction and operation of four Scottish lighthouses: Kinnaird Head, North Ronaldsay, Scalpay and Mull of Kintyre, for which they were empowered to borrow up to £1,200. Until then, the only major lighthouse in Scotland was the coal brazier mounted on the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth, together with some smaller lights in the Firths of the Tay and Clyde. Arnold Callin
Alured Arnold Callin (25 August 1924 – 29 June 2015) was a Manx politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man. He was born in August 1924 and educated at Peel Clothworkers' School. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and then became a businessman and auctioneer on the Isle of Man. Between 1956 and 1976 he served on Onchan Commissioners, twice being chairman. In 1976 he was elected MHK for Middle. He was elevated to the legislative council in 1985 and served until standing down in 1995. He held many positions with government including minister of home affairs. He died in June 2015 at the age of 90. David North (politician)
David North MBIM (born 1942) is a British politician, a former Minister in the Isle of Man Government. He was born in Bradford of Manx parents and educated at Douglas High School. He then pursued a career abroad before returning as Managing Director of John North Ltd, J Smylie & Sons Ltd, and Chairman of House & Home Ltd. He was also the Isle of Man correspondent for the Financial Times. At the 1988 by election he was elected MHK for Middle and remained in post until the 2001 General Election when he retired. He held several ministerial positions under both Sir Miles Walker and Donald Gelling. James Anthony Brown
James Anthony Brown OBE (born 5 January 1950) is a Manx politician, former businessman and electrician who was the Chief Minister of the Isle of Man from 2006 until October 2011, when he stepped down from office following his decision to retire. Early life and career Born on 5 January 1950, Brown was educated at Victoria Road Primary, Castletown and Castle Rushen High School and has since been an electrician, being the proprietor of Tony Brown Electrics in Castletown until its closure in 2010. He was elected as a member of Castletown Commissioners in 1976, becoming Chairman in 1980 before being elected as the Castletown MHK in 1981 at his first attempt. David Anderson (Manx Politician)
David Moore Anderson MHK (born 6 February 1954) is a former Member of the House of Keys for Glenfaba. He also served in a number of ministerial posts on the Isle of Man and is therefore a former member of the Council of Ministers. Political career Anderson was elected as a Member of the House of Keys in 2001 for Glenfaba. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2011. He had previously served as a Commissioner for the parish of Patrick from 1992 until his election to the House of Keys. He was elected to the Legislative Council in 2015, for what was intended to be a five-year term, but he announced his early retirement in 2018.
