Deniss Karpak
Deniss Karpak (born 18 July 1986) is an Estonian sailor. Karpak was born in Tallinn. He finished 24th at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the Laser class. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he finished 11th in the Finn class and at the 2016 Summer Olympics he finished 20th. Biography He was born to sailing athlete Igor Karpak and swimmer Marina Trofimova. He began his high school education in Odesa, Ukraine. When his family moved back to Estonia, he continued his studies at Tallinna Läänemere Gümnaasium, graduating in 2004. Karpak had his first sailing experience when he was six with an Optimist. He started to regularly engage in sailing when was 12 years old in 1998 with the sailing club "Baltsail". Optimist (dinghy)
The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by young people up to the age of 15. The Optimist is one of the two most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class and many more built but never registered. It is sailed in over 120 countries and it is one of only two sailboats as an International Class by World Sailing exclusively for sailors under 16. Origin The Optimist was designed in 1947 by American Clark Mills at the request of the Clearwater Florida Optimist service club following a proposal by Major Clifford McKay to offer low-cost sailing for young people. Kaire Leibak (born 21 May 1988, in Tartu) is a retired Estonian triple jumper. Her personal best jump of 14.43 metres is the Estonian record. She won a silver medal in the triple jump at the 2005 World Youth Championships in Athletics, where she was also seventh in the long jump. Heiki Nabi (born 6 June 1985) is an Estonian Olympic champion Greco-Roman wrestler. Nabi was born in Hilleste, Hiiumaa. Finn (dinghy)
The Finn dinghy is a single-handed, cat-rigged sailboat, and a former Olympic class for men's sailing. Since its debut at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, the Finn has featured in every summer Olympics, making it the longest serving dinghy in the Olympic Regatta and one of the most prolific Olympic sailboats, currently filling the slot for the Heavyweight Dinghy. The Finn is a physically demanding boat to race at the highest levels, especially since the class rules now allow unlimited boat rocking and sail pumping when the wind is above 10 knots. The event will not feature on the Olympic programme from 2024.
