DemocracyNZ
DemocracyNZ is a registered political party in New Zealand. The party was established and is led by former National Party MP Matt King following the anti-vaccination occupation at parliament. The party claims to be centrist and stand for democracy, equality, and unity for New Zealanders. Its public statements have been focused on opposition to New Zealand's pandemic response and to climate change regulations. On 12 October 2022, the party's registration was approved by the Electoral Commission. It contested the 2023 New Zealand general election, receiving 0.23% of the party vote and winning no electorates, so did not enter parliament. Matt King (politician)
Ronald Matthew King (born 1967) is a former New Zealand politician who was a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament for the New Zealand National Party, National Party from 2017 to 2020. During his time as an opposition MP, King's roles included membership of the Justice, Māori Affairs, and Transport and Infrastructure Select Committees, and National's spokesperson for Regional Development (North Island), Rural Communities, and Transport. While in parliament he promoted a bill to create a new offense for "Sucker punch, king hits" but it was defeated. King has posted claims about COVID-19 vaccine, COVID-19 vaccinations being dangerous, and says he does not believe that vaccinations have actually occurred in the numbers recorded. 2023 New Zealand General Election
The 2023 New Zealand general election to determine the composition of the 54th Parliament of New Zealand is planned to be held on 14 October 2023, after the currently elected 53rd Parliament is dissolved or expires. Voters will elect 120 members to the unicameral New Zealand House of Representatives under the mixed-member proportional (MMP) voting system, a proportional representation system in which 72 members will be elected from single-member electorates and 48 members from closed party lists. At the 2020 election, the centre-left Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, won an outright majority in the House, the first time under MMP that a party has been able to form a government without needing the support of another party. Northland (New Zealand Electorate)
Northland is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one Member of Parliament to the New Zealand House of Representatives. The electorate was established for the 1996 election. It was represented by National Party MP John Carter from 1996 to 2011, and then National's Mike Sabin until his resignation on 30 January 2015. The by-election in March 2015 was won by New Zealand First party leader Winston Peters. Peters was defeated by National's Matt King in the 2017 general election. Groundswell NZ is a farming advocacy group in New Zealand that was formed to oppose the New Zealand Government's National Policy Statement on Freshwater. Trevor Colin Mallard (born 17 June 1954) is a New Zealand politician and member of the Labour Party. First elected to Parliament in 1984, he was Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives from 2017 until 2022. Mallard was a Cabinet minister in the Fifth Labour Government of New Zealand (1999 to 2008).
