Demetrio Larena
Demetrio Larena was a political hero and former governor of Negros Oriental (East Negros), a province on Negros Island in the Philippines. He was the vice-president of the Republic of Negros and eventually the governor of Negros Oriental from 1901 until 1906. Larena was instrumental in the establishment of Silliman University in Dumaguete. When Dr. David Hibbard came to the Philippines to scout for a good location of the school that the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions wanted to be founded, Dumaguete was not one of the places originally contemplated. The Most Excellent (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Excelentísimo Señor'' (male) or ''Excelentísima Señora'' (female), literally "Most Excellent Sir/Madam") is an honorific prefix that is traditionally applied to certain people in Spain and certain Spanish-speaking countries. Relevance is the concept of one topic being connected to another topic in a way that makes it useful to consider the second topic when considering the first. Hermenegildo Villanueva
Hermenegildo Teves Villanueva (September 25, 1876 – December 17, 1941), fondly called Bindoy, was a Filipino politician. He served as Secretary of Labor for Manuel L. Quezon from December 1938 until his resignation in April 1939. Personal life Villanueva was born on the 25th of September, 1876 in Bais, Negros Oriental, one of the 11 children of Hermenegildo Regis Villanueva and Anselma Pinili Teves. David Sutherland Hibbard
David Sutherland Hibbard (October 31, 1868 – December 30, 1966) was an American missionary and educator who established and served as first president of Silliman Institute, now Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Philippines. Biography Education Prior to his assignment in the Philippines by the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions, Hibbard obtained his undergraduate degree from Emporia College in Emporia, Kansas. Thereafter, he received Theological Training at the Princeton Theological Seminary and went to obtain his Master of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Princeton University. Missionary work After graduating from Princeton in 1896, Hibbard served as a pastor at a local church in Lyndon, Kansas for three years.
