Delray Beach Tennis Center
Delray Beach Tennis Center is a tennis center in Delray Beach, Florida. Built in 1992, the stadium (part of the tennis center) currently holds 8,200 spectators. It currently hosts the Delray Beach Open. It has hosted Fed Cup and Davis Cup matches. In 2006, the Palm Beach Phantoms indoor football team planned on playing there, which would have made the Tennis Center the first outdoor facility to host the normally indoor sporting event. However, no agreement was made with the team, which forced the Phantoms to play all of its games on the road. The team folded after the 2006 season with a record of 1–6. Delray Beach is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population of Delray Beach as of April 1, 2020 was 66,846 according to the 2020 United States Census. The Palm Beach Phantoms were a professional indoor football team that were members of the National Indoor Football League in 2006. A new team with the same name played two replacement games for the Ultimate Indoor Football League in 2012. History Formed in time for the 2006 season, the West Palm Beach Phantoms were scheduled to play their home games at the Delray Beach Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Florida, which would have made them the first indoor football team to play in an outdoor venue. After losing their first two road contests, however, the Phantoms' first home game, scheduled for April 8, 2006, was called off due to a contract dispute.
