Delmonico International Corporation was one of several subsidiaries of ''Elgin National Industries''. Additional divisions included ''Elgin National Watch Company'' (and other watch companies), ''Elgin Radio'', ''Newport Yachts'' (sailboats), ''Enterprise Yachts'' (which includes Breuil powerboats), and others. Delmonico's three primary businesses were: the importing of Ignis freezers and refrigerators (part of the Agnelli empire of Fiat fame); the manufacturing of home entertainment equipment, such as stereos and televisions (including console stereos and television sets in the Early American, Mediterranean, French Provincial, and Scandinavian styles) in a large manufacturing facility in Queens, New York; and being the first importers into the United States of both Sony (in 1959) and JVC (in the 1960s). The Elgin National Watch Company, commonly known as Elgin Watch Company, was a major US watch maker from 1864 to 1968. The company sold watches under the names Elgin, Lord Elgin, and Lady Elgin. For nearly 100 years, the company's manufacturing complex in Elgin, Illinois, was the world's largest site dedicated to watchmaking. Giovanni Agnelli
Giovanni Agnelli (13 August 1866 – 16 December 1945) was an Italian businessman, who founded Fiat car manufacturing in 1899. Early life The son of Edoardo Agnelli and Aniceta Frisetti, he was born in 1866 in Villar Perosa, a small town near Pinerolo, Piedmont, still the main home and burial place of the Agnelli family. His father, mayor of Villar Perosa, died at age 40, when Giovanni was just five. He studied at the Collegio San Giuseppe in Turin; then embarked on a military career until 1893 when he returned to Villar Perosa, where he followed in his father's footsteps and became mayor in 1895 which he held until his death.
