Deli Serdang Regency
Deli Serdang ( id, Kabupaten Deli Serdang; Jawi: دلي سردڠ) is a regency in the Indonesian province of North Sumatra. It surrounds the city of Medan, and also borders the city of Binjai, which is effectively a bedroom community for Medan. It occupies an area of 2,497.72 sq.km (964.38 sq miles). The capital of the district is Lubuk Pakam, which is located approximately 30 km east of Medan. The national census of 2000 recorded 1,573,987 people, but by 2010 the regency's population increased by 13.76% to 1,790,431,Biro Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2011. and at the 2020 Census the total was 1,931,441. "Deli" is a song by American rapper Ice Spice. It was released on July 21, 2023, through 10K Projects and Capitol Records, as the fifth single from her debut EP '' Like..?'' and the first from its deluxe edition. Background and composition Spice shared a first teaser of the song on her TikTok on July 9, 2023, which subsequently went viral. She performed the song for the first time at Rolling Loud Miami on July 21. An "ode to a city staple", the deli, the song was seen as her development "from a scrappy newcomer to a full-blown superstar" coming full circle. A Deli (from Turkish ''deli'', meaning "mad, wild, daring") was a member of a light cavalry unit within the Ottoman Empire. Their main role was to act as front-line shock troops, also acting as personal guards for high-level Ottoman officials in the Rumeli during peacetime. History The first Delis were created by the Bosnian and Semendire governors. Gazi Husrev-beg was the leader most associated with these troops, who employed about 10,000 of them. Due to the efficiency of Husrev-beg, other district (ie frontier and inland) governors of Rumelia began to imitate him. The majority are Turks and they were chosen from among the peoples living in Rumelia. Sultanate of Deli (Indonesian: ''Kesultanan Deli Darul Maimoon''; Jawi: ) was a 1,820 km² Malay state in east Sumatra founded in 1630.
