Defne Magnanery
Defne Magnanery ( tr, Defne Koza Evi, lit=Cocoon House of Defne) is a vocational training center for silk farming, located at Defne in Hatay Province, southern Turkey. It was established by the Municipality of Defne to revive the silk farming and to provide livelihood to women. History Silk farming and weaving were common in Defne in the 1950s that sunk into oblivion in later years. The magnanery, situated at Harbiye neighborhood, 1079 St., 34, in Defne district of Hatay Province, was established by the district municipality in 2015. The mangnan and master instructor Tülay Genç, who runs the vocational training center, started the silk farming despite objections of her family. Previously, she had been helping her husband in silk weaving. Supported by her daughter Fulya, she learned silk farming, and took a certificate of training after attending a course. Defne
Defne is a new intracity district and second-level municipality in Hatay Province, Turkey. According to Law act no 6360, all Turkish provinces with a population more than 750,000 were declared metropolitan municipality. The law also created new districts within the capital city which have second-level municipalities in addition the metropolitan municipality. Defne is one of them. Thus after 2014 the present Hatay central district was split into two. A part was named ''Defne'' and the name Hatay was reserved for the metropolitan municipality. Education in Turkey is governed by a national system which was established in accordance with the Atatürk's Reforms. It is a state-supervised system designed to produce a skillful professional class for the social and economic institutes of the nation. Compulsory education lasts 12 years. Primary and secondary education is financed by the state and free of charge in public schools, between the ages of 6 and 19. Secondary or high school education is not mandatory but required in order to then progress to universities. Turkey has over 200 universities as of 2022. Silk is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. The protein fiber of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and is produced by certain insect larvae to form cocoons. The best-known silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm '' Bombyx mori'' reared in captivity ( sericulture).
