Deerfield Cay
Deerfield Beach Island, also colloquially known as DBI, is an island off the eastern mainland of Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach, Florida, United States. The island is approximately 5.5 miles long, consisting of three municipalities and two counties. The island runs from Lake Boca and Boca Inlet on the north end through Deerfield Beach to the Hillsboro Inlet and lighthouse on the south end of the island. The north end of the island is part of Boca Raton in Palm Beach County with approximately 3000 residences, several recreational parks and two draw bridges. The middle of the Island is part of Deerfield Beach (in Broward County) with approx. 2000 residences, public beaches, Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier, numerous restaurants/shops, and one drawbridge (Hillsboro Blvd.) leading to the mainland. Deerfield Beach
Deerfield Beach is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States, just south of the Palm Beach County line. The city is named for the numerous deer that once roamed the area. As of the 2020 census, the population was 86,859. It is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area, which is home to 6,166,488 inhabitants as of 2020. History Deerfield Beach's history dates to 1890, when a small settlement named Hillsborough was developed along the Hillsboro River. As the population grew to 20 by 1898, the settlement was now served by its own post office and the town was named Deerfield for the deer that grazed along the river. Hillsboro Inlet Light
Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on the north side of Hillsboro Inlet, midway between Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, in Hillsboro Beach, Florida. The light marks the northern limit of the Florida Reef, an underwater coral formation on the lower east coast of the state. History Hillsboro Point was designated as hazardous for the safe navigation of ships in 1855 and federal designation was sought. A request for a lighthouse at the inlet was first made in 1884. The request was repeated yearly and rejected 17 times. In 1901, the United States Lighthouse Board persuaded Congress to authorize the construction of a lighthouse in the dark area between Jupiter Inlet Light and Fowey Rocks Light. The official order approved on February 12, 1901, called for a "first-order light at or near Hillsboro Point...at a cost not to exceed $90,000."
