Debs Consolidated School
Debs Consolidated School, also called District School No. 132, is a historic rural schoolhouse in Debs, Beltrami County, Minnesota United States. The school held classes for both upper and lower grades until the 1940s. The upper grade students were then transported to a high school in nearby Bemidji, Minnesota. The school continued to hold classes for lower grades until 1970. It was then purchased by a private individual and remodeled into a summer home. Its nomination to the National Register of Historic Places noted its unusual wooden Neoclassical façade. Debs is a small town in Beltrami County, Minnesota. In 2011 it had an estimated population of three. It is named after Eugene V. Debs, an American labor organizer, socialist leader, and presidential candidate of the Socialist Party of America. It became one of the most prominent architectural styles in the Western world. Beltrami County ( ) is a county in the northern part of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,228. Its county seat is Bemidji. The county's name comes from Italian adventurer Giacomo Beltrami from Bergamo, who explored the area in 1825. The county was created in 1866 and organized in 1896. Beltrami County comprises the Bemidji, MN Micropolitan Statistical Area. Portions of the Leech Lake and Red Lake Indian reservations are in the county. The northernmost portion of the Mississippi River flows through the southern part of the county, through Bemidji. Bemidji ( ) is a city and the county seat of Beltrami County, in northern Minnesota, United States. The population was 14,574 at the 2020 census. According to 2021 census estimates, the city is estimated to have a population of 15,279, making it the largest commercial center between Grand Forks, North Dakota and Duluth.
