	Debbie Stavrou Debbie Stavrou is an English international lawn and indoor bowler. In 2009, she won the women's singles title at the 2009 World Indoor Bowls Championship defeating Alison Merrien in the final. The following year a second successive title came her way when she beat Alison Merrien once again in the 2010 World Indoor Bowls Championship. 	World Indoor Bowls Championships The World Indoor Bowls Championship is an international bowls competition held annual at Potters holiday park in Hopton on Sea. The last week of the competition is televised live on BBC where the open singles and open pairs', women's singles and mixed pairs' finals are shown. History The competition was first held in 1979 in Coatbridge, Scotland as a men's singles only event. The first event was sponsored by Embassy Cigarettes. In 1986, the men's pairs competition was added to the championship. In 1988, a rule change allowed women to compete for the first time and the women's singles competition was created. This rule change also changed expanded the men's singles and pairs competition and both become open tournaments. In 1989, the championships moved to the Guild Hall in Preston, England And Churchill Insurance took over the sponsorship. 	Alison Merrien Alison Jayne Merrien (born 28 November 1974) is an indoor bowls player from Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. Bowls career Indoors Merrien won double gold in the women's singles defeating Karen Murphy and the mixed pairs with Simon Skelton the 2011 World Indoor Bowls Championship. She won a third medal eight years later in 2019 losing out to Julie Forrest of Scotland in the final. In 2022, she finally claimed a third title when winning the mixed pairs with Paul Foster and also reached the women's singles final. In the southern hemisphere equivalent the World Cup Singles she has won two titles in 2008 and 2012 and has finished runner up on three more occasions. In 2022, Merrien won the mixed pairs at the inaugural World Bowls Indoor Championships, partnering Stewart Anderson, they defeated Michael Stepney and Claire Anderson in the final. 	David Gourlay David Gourlay is a Scottish (and former Australian) international lawn & indoor bowler from the Prestwick Bowling Club and Crookston Bowling Club. He is also a Commonwealth Games medal winning coach. Bowls career Gourlay, a Glaswegian, first took up the game aged 11 following the success of his father David Gourlay Sr. at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and his mother Sarah Gourlay at the 1985 World Outdoor Championships. He has won 15 World Bowls Tour Titles with the highlight being the World Indoor Singles title in 1996. He represented Scotland at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
