Dear John Letter
A Dear John letter is a letter written to a man by his wife or romantic partner to inform him that their relationship is over, usually because his partner has found another lover. The man is often a member of the military stationed overseas, although the letter may be used in other ways, including being left for him to discover when he returns from work to an emptied house. It is usually sent after time-away on holiday. Origin and etymology While the exact origins of the phrase are unknown, the most likely origin dates back to the 1862 poem ''No, thank you, John'' by the Victorian poet Christina Rossetti. More specifically, the female protagonist Alice Vavasor in Anthony Trollope's 1864 novel ''Can You Forgive Her?'' composes just such a letter to her soon to be spurned lover John Grey. It is commonly believed to have been coined by Americans during World War II. "John" was the most popular and common baby name for boys in America every single year from 1880 through 1923, making i ...

Hat Full Of Stars
''Hat Full of Stars'' is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released in 1993. The album was released 4 years after the singer's third studio album, '' A Night to Remember'', which received unfavorable reviews and had low sales compared to the singer's previous releases. ''Hat Full of Stars'' received favorable reviews but was poorly received by the public, receiving gold certifications in Japan and France only. Production and composition ''Hat Full of Stars'' deviated from Lauper's pop-rock sound of previous projects and delved heavily into alternative music. It also furthered her growing penchant for writing topical songs about social issues. The album was recorded at the Hit Factory, Sigma Sound, Messina Sound, Right Track, The Enchanted Cottage, The Ranch, and World Famous Orbit Sound. It was co-produced by dance-music artist Junior Vasquez and is highly typical of his work of the time; as such, many of the songs are held together by synthetic l ...

Dear John (Taylor Swift Song)
"Dear John" is a song written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift for her third studio album, ''Speak Now'' (2010). The title references the Dear John letter, which is a letter written to a man by his romantic partner to inform him that their relationship is over. Inspired by one of Swift's former partners, the lyrics are about a 19-year-old woman's tumultuous relationship with an older man. Produced by Swift and Nathan Chapman, "Dear John" is a slow-burning power ballad combining soft rock, electric blues, and country pop; the production incorporates electric guitar licks. In ''Speak Now'' album reviews, many critics praised "Dear John" for its emotional impact and vivid lyrics about heartbreak; some criticized the lyrics as shallow and shortsighted. In retrospect, critics have regarded the track as one of Swift's best in her catalog because of its songwriting. "Dear John" peaked at number 54 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and at number 66 on the Canadian ...

The Forgotten Arm
''The Forgotten Arm'' is the fifth album by singer-songwriter Aimee Mann, with illustrations by artist Owen Smith. It was released by SuperEgo Records on May 3, 2005. It is a concept album, telling the story of two characters who run off with each other to escape their problems, but end up in more trouble than either of them could have imagined. The album reflects Mann's own boxing in its story and illustrations. The title is derived from a move in which one arm is used to hit the opponent, causing him to "forget" about the other arm, which is then used to deliver a harsher blow. The album won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package for Mann and Gail Marowitz (art directors). Reception The album so far has a score of 70 out of 100 from Metacritic based on "generally favorable reviews".
