Deanna Doig
Deanna Doig (born March 13, 1972 in Bethune, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan. Career Doing has been active on the World Curling Tour since the 2005–06 season, when she joined the Heather Rankin rink as her third. In their first season, the team played in the 2006 Canada Cup of Curling, finishing with a 1–4 record. The next season, the team played in several Grand Slam events, making the quarterfinals at the 2006 Trail Appliances Autumn Gold Curling Classic. The following season, the team played made it to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic and went 0–5 at the 2008 Canada Cup of Curling. In 2008, Doig joined the Michelle Englot rink as her third. The team would win Doig's lone career Grand Slam title at the 2008 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic. Bethune, Saskatchewan
Bethune ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Dufferin No. 190 and Census Division No. 6. The village is north-west of Regina on Highway 11 (Louis Riel Trail). Arm River flows along a river valley north of Bethune, which features camping sites, and the Qu'Appelle River is a short way south. Michelle Englot
Michelle Englot (born January 22, 1964 in Montmartre, Saskatchewan; formerly known as Michelle Ridgway and Michelle Schneider); is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently plays second on Team Brooklyn Stevenson. She is a nine-time provincial champion skip. Career Englot started curling at age twelve, and represented Saskatchewan at the 1983 Canada Winter Games. Englot won her first Saskatchewan Scott Tournament of Hearts provincial championship in 1988, she defeated Kathy Fahlman 10–0 in the final. This qualified Englot for her first Tournament of Hearts national championship. At the 1988 Scott Tournament of Hearts, she finished with a 9–2 record, but lost in the semi-final to Heather Houston of Ontario. The 2013 Colonial Square Ladies Classic was held from November 15 to 18 at the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Penny Barker
Penny Barker (born Penny Roy on September 25, 1985) is a curler from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She currently skips her own team out of the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre in Moose Jaw. She is a two-time Saskatchewan Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial champion, winning the event in 2017 and 2022. Career Juniors Barker was the alternate on the Mandy Selzer rink that represented Canada at the 2006 World Junior Curling Championships. The team won the silver medal that year. She represented the University of Regina at five Canadian university championships, including winning a silver in 2007. Women's Barker began skipping a women's team in 2007, after playing third for Karen Purdy in the 2006–07 season. Kim Dawn Schneider (born August 21, 1984) is a Canadian curler. She currently plays third on Team Amber Holland. Career Juniors Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Schneider grew up in the small village of Kronau, Saskatchewan outside of Regina. She and her sister and teammate Tammy were the daughters of 1990 provincial champion lead Larry Schneider. In 2003 and 2004, Schneider played in the Saskatchewan junior championships, but never won. 2005–2012 After juniors, Schneider teamed up with Amber Holland, along with her sister Tammy Schneider and Heather Kalenchuk. Skip (curling)
In the sport of curling, the skip is the captain of a team. The skip determines strategy, and holds the broom in the ''house'' (target area) to indicate where a teammate at the other end of the curling ''sheet'' (playing area) should aim the stone. The skip usually throws the last two stones in the fourth position, but may play in any other position. Sometimes "skipper" is used; it can also be abbreviated as "S". It's also used as a verb ("skips", "skipped", "skipping"). It is conventional to identify a team by the name of the skip. Responsibilities Overall, the skip leads the team and provides strategic direction. The skip calls shots teammates to play, through verbal direction and physical gestures. Lead (curling)
In curling, the lead is the person who delivers the first two stones of the end for their team. On most teams, where the lead does not act as skip or vice, the lead will sweep for each of their teammates shots. Because of the free-guard-zone rule, which prevents leads from removing most of an opponents guards, leads are usually proficient at throwing guards and draws, and throw few takeouts or other power shots.
