Dealz is a chain of discount retail stores predominantly in Ireland, Spain and Poland, offering a range of general merchandise products, the majority of which are at the fixed price of €1.50 (in Ireland and Spain); £1.20; or zl 6.- The stores are operated by South African company Steinhoff, through its subsidiary Poundland. History The first two Dealz stores were opened in Blanchardstown and Portlaoise in September 2011, and by September 2013, the chain had expanded to 28 stores. Additional Dealz stores also opened in islands off of Britain: one in Douglas, Isle of Man and another in Kirkwall, Orkney. Dealz expanded to these British islands because it was offering Poundland products for £1 and £1.20. Poundland is a British variety store chain founded in 1990. It once sold most items at the single price of £1, including Closeout (sale), clearance items and proprietary brands. The first Pilot (experiment), pilot store opened in December 1990 following numerous rejections by landlords who had reservations about allowing a single-price store to operate, fearing it could adversely affect the local competition. An estimated 7 million customers shopped in Poundland every week in 2016, many being female shoppers in the NRS social grade, C1, C2, D and E categories (the working classes in a system of demography, demographic classification used in the United Kingdom). Steinhoff International is a multinational holding company that is dual listed in Germany and South Africa. Its holdings are in the retail sector, primarily in furniture and household goods, and include a controlling stake in South Africa's Pepkor group. Torremolinos () is a municipality in Andalusia, southern Spain, west of Málaga. Pep&Co is a British discount fashion retail chain, owned by the South African company Pepkor (a wholly owned subsidiary of Steinhoff International) and based in Watford, England. Pep&Co opened their first store in the Newlands Shopping Centre in Kettering, Northamptonshire in July 2015. The retailer opened their first 50 stores in 50 days, an average of a store a day, with aspirations to expand up to 900 outlets. Pep&Co opened their first "store-in-a-store" in March 2017, when they utilised space in an existing Glasgow Poundland store without affecting the range offered by the parent store. The chain announced in November 2017 that it planned to expand into the Republic of Ireland by opening a "significant number" within Dealz's stores. Euroland was a Dutch variety store chain. History In 1997, the first ''2.50 Shop'' opened its doors, selling everything for ƒ2.50. In 2001, the similar shop called Knaakland ("knaak" was a ƒ2.50 coin) was bought by the 2.50 Shop chain. Both shops kept their original name until the introduction of the euro, less than a year later. Both shops were rebranded to Euroland, using a logo similar to that of Knaakland, and initially selling everything for a euro. As the assortment expanded, the initial €1-only policy was dropped, and other, more expensive goods appeared. Later on however, everything displayed on the side walls was on sale for €1 with more expensive goods occupying the middle of the store. This partitioning was intended to avoid confusion.
