De La Salle College, Orange
De La Salle College, Orange was a Catholic boys' School located in Orange, New South Wales. It was located in Summer Street. Patrician Brothers The Patrician Brothers, an Irish order of Catholic teaching brothers, established a boys' school in Orange in 1890. Fourteen ex-students died in World War I. The Patrician Brothers left Orange in 1927, when Bishop O'Farrell expelled the order from all schools in the Bathurst diocese following a dispute over syllabuses. De La Salle Brothers The De La Salle Brothers arrived in 1928 to take over the school. Additions to the Summer Street site opened in 1937 with glass bricks "incorporating the most modern ideas in natural lighting," and a handball court in 1939. Michael O'Farrell (bishop)
Michael O'Farrell (7 April 1865 in Milhow, Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland – 4 April 1928 in Orange, New South Wales), an Australian suffragan bishop, was the fourth Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bathurst, New South Wales. O'Farrell was consecrated by the Apostolic Delegate, Archbishop Cattaneo in 1920 and served until his death in 1928. O'Farrell was the first Vincentian bishop in Australia. Early years and background Educated at St. Finian's College, Navan, O'Farrell came from a devout religious family that included two sisters who became Sisters of Mercy, and three of his brothers became priests, two of whom migrated to Australia and worked as priests in the Archdiocese of Sydney. James Franklin (born 1953 in Sydney) is an Australian philosopher, mathematician and historian of ideas. Life and career Franklin was educated at St. Joseph's College, Hunters Hill, New South Wales. His undergraduate work was at the University of Sydney (1971–74), where he attended St John's College and he was influenced by philosophers David Stove and David Armstrong. He completed his PhD in 1981 at the University of Warwick, on algebraic groups. Since 1981 he has taught in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales. His research areas include the philosophy of mathematics and the 'formal sciences', the history of probability, Australian Catholic history, the parallel between ethics and mathematics, restraint, the quantification of rights in applied ethics, and the analysis of extreme risk. John Raymond "JR" Ranch (born 16 November 1940) is an Australian former rower, twice a national champion and a silver medal winner at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Early life Ranch was born in Bondi, New South Wales and moved to Orange, New South Wales at four years of age when his father became the licensee of the Tourist Hotel there. John Brophy Renshaw AC (8 August 190928 July 1987) was an Australian politician. He was Labor Premier of New South Wales from 30 April 1964 to 13 May 1965. He was the first New South Wales Premier born in the 20th century. Early life Jack Renshaw was born on 8 August 1909 near Wellington in central New South Wales. His parents were John Ignatius Renshaw and Ann Renshaw (''née'' Reidy). When he was six his parents took up a selection near the town of Binnaway. Five years later his father died in a farm accident, leaving his widow to raise eight children.
