John Ranch
John Raymond "JR" Ranch (born 16 November 1940) is an Australian former rower, twice a national champion and a silver medal winner at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Early life Ranch was born in Bondi, New South Wales and moved to Orange, New South Wales at four years of age when his father became the licensee of the Tourist Hotel there. He was schooled at the Santa Maria Convent school and then at De La Salle College, Orange. He attended Sydney University from 1959, and joined the Sydney University Boat Club as well as rowing in surf boats at the Bondi Surf Club. Rowing career From the Sydney University Boat Club Ranch was chosen to represent Australia in a Trans-Tasman regatta against New Zealand in 1965 rowing in the four seat of the men's eight. That crew placed second in both of its match races. Sydney University Boat Club
Sydney University Boat Club is the rowing club in Sydney, Australia with the oldest charter having been formed in 1860 by the founders of the University of Sydney. It has had a boatshed presence in various locations on Sydney Harbour since 1886, excepting between 1941 and 1966. A varsity and recreational club during most of its history, the Boat Club has since the 1990s had a focus on its high performance and elite rowing programs. Supported by the University's Sports Union the Club has developed an increasing number of Olympic representative oarsmen and women in the new millennium with club members rowing in twenty-two seats in those Australian Olympic crews who represented between Athens 2004 and Tokyo 2021. Sydney Rowing Club
Sydney Rowing Club is the oldest rowing club in New South Wales, Australia formed in 1870. It has occupied its current site on Port Jackson's Parramatta River at Abbotsford Point since 1874. The club has a focus on its high performance and elite rowing programs and as of the 2021 Olympic Games, sixty-eight rowers from the club had competed at the Olympic Games rowing in one hundred and two of the seats raced by Australian Olympic crews. Over one hundred club members have achieved national selection. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. Peter Dickson (rower)
Peter Dickson (27 August 1945 – 27 June 2008) was an Australian representative rower. He was a four time national champion who won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Dickson was born in Sydney and attended the Shore School where he rowed in the Shore first VIII in 1962 and 1963. He played rugby at school, was selected in the GPS first XV selection side in 1963 as a second rower. He later played first grade rugby for the Gordon Rugby Club in Sydney. His senior rowing was done at the Leichhardt Rowing Club. In the five seasons from 1964 to 1968 he was selected in New South Wales state eights which contested the King's Cup at the Australian Interstate Regatta. Those New South Wales crew were national champions in 1965, 1967 and 1968. Alfred "Alf" Walter Duval (born 1 July 1941) is an Australian former rower who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics and in the 1968 Summer Olympics.
