De Klinge
De Klinge is a Belgian town and part of the municipality of Sint-Gillis-Waas in the province of East Flanders (Oost-Vlaanderen), is located on the border with the Netherlands province of Zeeland and within the non-administrative region known as the Waasland or the Land van Waas. On the Dutch side of the border the town is called Clinge and is part of the municipality of Hulst. Sint-Niklaas is 10 kilometres south of De Klinge. The nearest large Belgian city is Antwerp (Antwerpen) to the east. The town is bordered by many forests, including the Stropersbos (the Stroper Forest), which are excellent for cycling and walking. The dialect of Dutch spoken in De Klinge is called Klings, an East Flemish dialect. In the past there were several makers of clogs (wooden shoes) or ''klompen'' as they are called in Dutch. Deelgemeente
A deelgemeente (, literally ''part-municipality'') or section ( French) is a subdivision of a municipality in Belgium and, until March 2014, in the Netherlands as well. Hulst
Hulst () is a municipality and city in southwestern Netherlands in the east of Zeelandic Flanders. History Hulst received city rights in the 12th century. Hulst was captured from the Spanish in 1591 by Maurice of Orange but was recaptured by Archduke Albert in 1596. In 1640, the Dutch forces tried to conquer the city, but they were defeated in battle by the Spanish Army, and Frederick Henry was forced to retreat. In 1645, the Siege of Hulst (to control the left bank of the Schelde river) occurred. It was led by Prince of Orange Frederick Henry, during the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) with Spain. A further siege took place in 1702, where General Menno van Coehoorn defended the town successfully for the Dutch and in 1747 when it was taken by the French after incompetent defence by Lt. Ertvelde
Ertvelde is a village of the Belgian municipality of Evergem. Eddy Wally used to have his legendary show venue in the village-centre, called "Paris, Las Vegas". The Brouwerij Van Steenberge is located in Ertvelde. The brewery produces Gulden Draak, a strong tripel ale. You can also find historical things, like the 'Mottekasteel' and a collection of materials used in WWI at the (old) local government. Clinge
Clinge is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Hulst, and lies about 28 km southwest of Bergen op Zoom. Clinge is located on the Dutch-Belgian border and joins with the Belgian town of De Klinge, in the Belgian municipality of Sint-Gillis-Waas. This border can normally be crossed freely. History The village was first mentioned in the 13th century as die clinc, and means hill. Clinge is a linear settlement. The moorland was cultivated in the 13th century and ''polder''ed in 1616. Waasland
The Waasland is a Belgian region. It is part of the Belgian provinces of East Flanders and Antwerp. The other borders of the Land van Waas are with the Scheldt and Durme rivers. The (informal) capital and major city of the region is Sint-Niklaas. It is also called the ''Land van Waas'' (Land of Waas); Waas most likely refers to the soggy soil of the region although the exact etymology is unknown. One possibility is a connection to the English word "wasteland". The swamps that characterized it have long been drained although many fields are still noticeably convex; the result of many years of plowing the topsoil towards the center to improve drainage.
