De fofftig Penns (Standard German: ''Die fünfzig Pfennige''; English: ''The Fifty Pennies'') was a German hip-hop and electro band. Unusually, their lyrics are exclusively in Low German, a minority Germanic language of northern Germany and the eastern Netherlands. History De fofftig Penns was founded in 2003, purely for fun, by three schoolfriends from , a district of the port city of Bremen in north-west Germany. They were Malte Battefeld ("Riemelmeester Malde"), Jakob Köhler ("Kommodige Jaykopp") and Torben Otten ("Plietsche Torbän"). Until near the end of their schooldays, they knew hardly any Low German at all. They chose the name as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to American rapper 50 Cent; their first song was a parody of his song "P.I.M.P.". Bremen (Low German also: ''Breem'' or ''Bräm''), officially the City Municipality of Bremen (german: Stadtgemeinde Bremen, ), is the capital of the German state Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (''Freie Hansestadt Bremen''), a two-city-state consisting of the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. Bremen (), officially the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (german: Freie Hansestadt Bremen; nds, Free Hansestadt Bremen), is the smallest and least populous of Germany's 16 states. "The Wild Rover" (Roud 1173) is a very popular and well-travelled folk song. Many territories have laid claim to have the original version. History In 2015 the English Folk Song and Dance periodical "Folk Music Journal" vol 10 No 5 had an article by Brian Peters. He claims that the origin of the song was a seventeenth century English Broadside written by Thomas Lanfiere. This evolved into several distinct versions. They have been found in England, Scotland, Ireland and North America. Shortly afterwards it became popular in Australia. The song tells the story of a young man who has been away from his hometown for many years. When he returns to his former alehouse, the landlady refuses him credit, until he presents the gold which he has gained while he has been away. Saalschutz is a Swiss electropop band from Zurich. The band classifies its style as "techno punk". Band history After a split single with Knarf Rellöm, released on Rewika Records in 2003, the first album followed in 2004, released on ZickZack records. Saalschutz combines electronic dance music with mostly German, sometimes English and seldom French or Swiss German lyrics which often have dadaistic characteristics.
