De Baarsjes
De Baarsjes () is a district ( nl, wijk) in Amsterdam-West situated west of the city center of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Named after a former hamlet, urban development started in the 1920s. It contains the neighbourhoods Admiralenbuurt, Chassébuurt, Postjesbuurt, and Trompbuurt. Etymology The name comes from the former hamlet De Baarsjes (The Little Perches) that was formed in the 17th century, which in turn derived its name from an inn called De Drie Baarsjes (The Three Little Perches) situated on the eastern border of the present-day district. History Built during the first half of the 20th century along a tram line that brought commuters to the city centre, De Baarsjes was formulated by the architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage who designed the main square Mercatorplein. Hendrik Petrus Berlage
Hendrik Petrus Berlage (21 February 1856 – 12 August 1934) was a Dutch architect. He is considered one of the fathers of the architecture of the Amsterdam School. Life and work Hendrik Petrus Berlage, son of Nicolaas Willem Berlage and Anna Catharina Bosscha, was born on 21 February 1856 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Anna Catharina Bosscha's uncle was Johannes Bosscha, a scientist who taught in Polytechnische School te Delft. Berlage studied architecture at the Zurich Institute of Technology between 1875 and 1878 after which he traveled extensively for 3 years through Europe. In the 1880s he formed a partnership in the Netherlands with Theodore Sanders which produced a mixture of practical and utopian projects. Amsterdam School
The Amsterdam School (Dutch: ''Amsterdamse School'') is a style of architecture that arose from 1910 through about 1930 in the Netherlands. The Amsterdam School movement is part of international Expressionist architecture, sometimes linked to German Brick Expressionism. Buildings of the Amsterdam School are characterized by brick construction with complicated masonry with a rounded or organic appearance, relatively traditional massing, and the integration of an elaborate scheme of building elements inside and out: decorative masonry, art glass, wrought ironwork, spires or "ladder" windows (with horizontal bars), and integrated architectural sculpture. Rijksmonument
A rijksmonument (, ) is a national heritage site of the Netherlands, listed by the agency Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) acting for the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. At the end of February 2015, the Netherlands had 61,822 listed national heritage sites, of which approximately 1,500 are listed as archaeological sites. A10 Motorway (Netherlands)
The A10 motorway ( nl, Rijksweg 10) is a motorway in the Netherlands. This motorway is the ring road around the city of Amsterdam. It has a length of . Five other motorways connect to the A10: motorway A8 at interchange Coenplein (north), motorway A5 at interchange Coenplein (south), A4 at interchange De Nieuwe Meer, A2 at interchange Amstel, and A1 at interchange Watergraafsmeer. Part of the A10 is the Coentunnel, crossing the Noordzeekanaal ("North Sea Canal"). This twin tube tunnel was notorious for traffic jams for decades and another two tubes have been built. Rembrandtpark () is an urban park in Nieuw-West, Amsterdam, Netherlands. The park is named after the 17th-century painter Rembrandt. The park was completed in 1973 and has a surface area of which includes a petting zoo and playgrounds. Amsterdam Oud-West
Oud-West is a neighborhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands, roughly covering the area between the Overtoom, a major thoroughfare west of the city centre, and the parallel De Clercqstraat, a shopping street. The exact boundaries are the Vondelpark and the Singelgracht, Hugo de Grootgracht and Kostverlorenvaart canals. A stadsdeel (; pl. ''stadsdelen''; lit. ''city part'') is the name used for urban or municipality districts in some of the larger municipalities of the Netherlands. Amsterdam calls 7 of its 8 ''deelgemeenten'' ''stadsdeel''.
