''Days of Abandon'' is the third studio album by American indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. It was released on May 13, 2014 by Yebo Music. The album was issued in Europe by Fierce Panda Records on June 2, 2014. Critical reception '' Under the Radar'' reviewer Austin Trunick found ''Days of Abandon'' to be reminiscent of "jangle-centric" 1980s music, "somewhere between The Smiths and The Cure's bouncier hits." Sasha Geffen of ''Consequence of Sound'' wrote that the album was "more deliberately articulated" than previous releases by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, comparing its musical style to those of The New Pornographers and Interpol. In a joint review by 10 ''Sonic Seducer'' writers, the album was compared to the music of The Cure, The Smiths, and New Order, while also being criticized for being too shallow. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart were an American indie pop band from New York City, formed in 2007. The band centered around founding member and principal songwriter Kip Berman (vocals, guitar). In the band's final iteration, Berman was joined in concert by Christoph Hochheim (guitar), A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Jen Goma (keyboards, vocals), Jacob Sloan (bass), and Anton Hochheim (drums). Former members and contributors include Peggy Wang (keyboards, vocals), The Drums, Connor Hanwick, Kurt Feldman and Alex Naidus. History Formation and early years (2007–2012) Kip Berman, lead singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter, grew up in Philadelphia, but moved to Portland, Oregon, where he lived for several years. Kelly Pratt (musician)
Kelly Pratt is an arranger and multi-instrumentalist best known for his horn work in the band Beirut and with David Byrne. Biography Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Pratt has been a member of Beirut since the band's relocation to Brooklyn, playing in the live band and on the recordings. He joined Montreal's Arcade Fire on their Neon Bible world tour in 2007–2008, playing trumpet, flugelhorn, euphonium, French horn and flute. Pratt has also been an arranger and musical director for David Byrne & St. Vincent, leading the brass section for the tour promoting their album Love This Giant. He is currently arranger and conductor for Father John Misty. New Order are an English rock band formed in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. The Smiths
The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. They comprised the singer Morrissey, the guitarist Johnny Marr, the bassist Andy Rourke and the drummer Mike Joyce. Jangle
Jangle or jingle-jangle is a sound typically characterized by undistorted, treble-heavy electric guitars (particularly 12-strings) played in a droning chordal style (by strumming or arpeggiating). The sound is mainly associated with pop music as well as 1960s guitar bands, folk rock, and 1980s indie music. It is sometimes classed as its own subgenre, jangle pop. Music critics use the term to suggest guitar pop that evokes a bright mood. Despite forerunners such as Jackie DeShannon, the Searchers and the Everly Brothers, it was the Beatles and the Byrds who are commonly credited with launching the popularity of jangle.
