Dayle Shackel
Dayle Shackel (born 29 January 1970) is a New Zealand former cricketer. He played one List A cricket, List A match for Otago cricket team, Otago in 1993/94. Shackel later became the physiotherapist for the New Zealand national cricket team, New Zealand cricket team, a role he kept until 2011, when he became the team's injury management and physiotherapy co-ordinator. In May 2002, Shackel was on New Zealand cricket team in Pakistan in 2002, tour in Pakistan with the New Zealand cricket team when he was caught up in a 2002 Karachi bus bombing, bomb blast. Since 2020, Shackel has worked at the medical manager for New Zealand Cricket. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. List A Cricket
List A cricket is a classification of the limited-overs (one-day) form of the sport of cricket, with games lasting up to eight hours. List A cricket includes One Day International (ODI) matches and various domestic competitions in which the number of overs in an innings per team ranges from forty to sixty, as well as some international matches involving nations who have not achieved official ODI status. Together with first-class and Twenty20 cricket, List A is one of the three major forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Otago Cricket Team
The Otago cricket team, nicknamed the Volts since the 1997–98 season, are a New Zealand first-class cricket team which first played representative cricket in 1864. The team represents the Otago, Southland and North Otago regions of New Zealand's South Island. Their main governing board is the Otago Cricket Association which is one of six major associations that make up New Zealand Cricket. The team plays most of its home games at the University Oval in Dunedin, but occasionally plays games at the Events Centre in Queenstown, Queen's Park Ground in Invercargill and Molyneux Park in Alexandra. New Zealand Cricket Team In Pakistan In 2002
The New Zealand national cricket team was due to tour Pakistan in September to October 2001 but the tour was cancelled for security reasons in the wake of the World Trade Center & The Pentagon attacks on 11 September 2001. Three Tests had been scheduled at Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar; Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad; and the National Stadium, Karachi. Instead, New Zealand visited Pakistan in April to May 2002 and played a two-match Test series against the Pakistani national cricket team, but the tour was cut short following 2002 Karachi bus bombing. 2002 Karachi Bus Bombing
The 2002 Karachi bus bombing was one of a series of deadly strikes on Westerners in Pakistan in 2002. The blast killed 14 people and wounded another 40. The attack took place in Karachi, Sindh. Details On May 8, 2002, a man driving a car bomb stopped next to a bus in Karachi outside the Sheraton Hotel. He detonated the car, ripping the bus apart, and killing himself, 11 Frenchmen, and two Pakistanis. The Frenchmen were engineers working with Pakistan to design an Agosta 90B-class submarine for the Pakistani Navy. About 40 others were wounded. The bombing occurred close to the Pearl-Continental Hotel where the New Zealand national cricket team were staying as part of their tour of 2002. The team's physiotherapist Dayle Shackel received a minor cut to his forearm from flying glass.
