Davidson County Schools is a School district in Davidson County, North Carolina. The administrative education board is headquartered just off of U.S. Highway 64 on County School Road just outside the city limits of Lexington, North Carolina. The school system comprises seven high schools, seven middle schools, eighteen elementary schools, one extended day school, one ungraded special school, and a STEM based career academy. The superintendent is Dr. Emily Lipe. Two other school districts, Lexington City Schools and Thomasville City Schools, are also found in Davidson County. Davidson County, North Carolina
Davidson County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 168,930. Its county seat is Lexington, and its largest city is Thomasville. Davidson County is included in the Winston-Salem, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Greensboro-Winston-Salem- High Point, NC Combined Statistical Area. Parts of Davidson County are in the Yadkin Valley wine region. South Davidson High School
South Davidson High is located near Denton, North Carolina. It adjoins South Davidson Middle School. History South Davidson High School was originally Denton High School, which was opened in 1929 as part of a plan to bring a public high school to southern Davidson County. In 1989 the building became Denton Elementary School and the high school moved to its present larger building one mile north of Denton and was renamed South Davidson High School. When the new high school opened, Silver Valley Elementary, which had been a feeder school for nearby Central Davidson High School, became an additional feeder school for South. Oak Grove High School is a public high school in Midway, North Carolina, which opened in August 2017. The school is a part of the Davidson County Schools system, and is to help with the overcrowded Ledford Senior and North Davidson High Schools. History Oak Grove first came to light in 2012, when the Davidson County Schools Board of Education approved a middle school in the Oak Grove area, to help with overcrowding at North Davidson and Ledford Middle schools. At the time, North Davidson High and Ledford Senior were past max student capacity. Central Davidson High School (commonly referred to as "Central", "CHS" or "CDHS") is a public high school in Lexington, North Carolina. Central was established in 1957 and is located along NC HWY 47. Tyro is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located west of Lexington and south of Winston-Salem in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. Southmont, North Carolina
Southmont is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,470. It is located along North Carolina State Highway 8 on the northern shores of High Rock Lake. There is an organized effort underway to incorporate the community as "The Village of Southmont". Demographics History The community was founded in 1883 as "Fairmont" with the approval of a post office. The postmaster was Samuel S. Peacock from April 19, 1883, until it closed August 30, 1906. It was located in a country store operated by Mr. Hedrick near where the railroad crosses Hwy 8 today. Within 10 years, however, the community had failed to thrive and the store closed, with the post office surrendering its charter.
