David Schapira
David S. Schapira (born February 17, 1980) is an American politician who served from 2007–2013 in the Arizona Legislature, representing District 17, and served as Senate Minority Leader. In 2010, he was elected to the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board where he served until 2015. He was elected to the Tempe City Council in 2014 and served there until 2018. Early life, education, and career Schapira is a third-generation Arizonan who was born in Mesa, Arizona. He later moved to Tempe and then to Phoenix, where he attended North Canyon High School as an International Baccalaureate student after which he attended George Washington University, earning a degree in political science. He returned to North Canyon High School to teach after college. He earned a Master's Degree in Education Leadership from Arizona State University in 2015. Margaret J. Burton Cahill (born March 8, 1954) is an American Democratic politician. She has served as Arizona State Senator for District 17 until 2011. North Canyon High School
North Canyon High School (NCHS) is a nationally recognized public high school located in north central Phoenix, Arizona. It features an International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Construction started in 1989, the campus was designed by Hickman, Schafer & Turley Architects Ltd. of Mesa. The campus opened in the 1991–1992 school year as Paradise Valley High School before PVHS moved into their remodeled school. It became North Canyon starting in the 1993–1994 school year. The first graduating class was the class of 1994. The school's athletics teams are known as the Rattlers, and the school colors are purple and black. Kathy Hoffman (born 1985) is an American educator, speech-language pathologist, and politician who served as the Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2019 to 2023. Arizona's 9th Congressional District
Arizona's 9th congressional district was created as a result of the 2010 Census. The first candidates ran in the 2012 House elections, and the first representative was seated for the 113th Congress in 2013. Formerly located in the Phoenix area, the 9th district has been in western Arizona since 2023. Paul Gosar, who previously represented the 1st and 4th districts, was elected to the seat in 2022 following redistricting. He was sworn in on January 3, 2023.
