David Park (golfer)
David Park (born 25 June 1974) is a Welsh professional golfer. Park was born in London to Welsh parents and represents Wales. In 1997, he won the 1997 Brabazon Trophy and was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team before turning professional late in the year. Park made his first start on the European Tour at the 1999 Moroccan Open, and led from the beginning before losing a playoff to Miguel Ángel Martín at the sixth sudden-death hole. His second event was the Compaq European Grand Prix, and he won it. However, he has not lived up to this early promise, and through 2008 he has not bettered his rookie season Order of Merit ranking of 40th. Per Nyman
Per Nyman (born 14 February 1968) is a Swedish professional golfer. Nyman was born in Kristianstad and attended Fresno State University in California, United States, where he twice won the GCAA All-America Scholar Award. He turned professional after graduating in 1992. He played on the European Tour and its official development tour, the Challenge Tour, between 1993 and 2004. He won four times on the Challenge Tour, including twice in 1995, and finished 2nd on the Challenge Tour Rankings in 1998. He was also medalist at the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage in 2002. He should not be confused with fellow professional golfer and two-time Challenge Tour winner Per G. Nyman. 2000 Alfred Dunhill Cup
The 2000 Alfred Dunhill Cup was the 16th and final Alfred Dunhill Cup. It was a team tournament featuring 16 countries, each represented by three players. The Cup was played 12–15 October at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. The sponsor was the Alfred Dunhill company. The Spanish team of Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Miguel Ángel Martín, and José María Olazábal beat the South African team of Ernie Els, David Frost, and Retief Goosen in the final. It was the second win for Spain. The tournament was replaced by the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2001, an official European Tour event. Alfred Dunhill Cup
The Alfred Dunhill Cup was a team golf tournament which ran from 1985 to 2000, sponsored by Alfred Dunhill Ltd. It was for three-man teams of professional golfers, one team representing each country, and was promoted as the "World Team Championship". It was a "special approved event" on the European Tour, which means that it was supported by the Tour, but the prize money did not count towards the Tour's Order of Merit. The host course was the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. The stature of the members of the American team was variable as the Dunhill Cup clashed with a PGA Tour event, though the fact that it was played at "The Home of Golf" helped to attract some star names. The 1999 World Cup of Golf took place 18–21 November at the Mines Resort and Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was the 45th World Cup. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event (32 teams) with each team consisting of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. World Cup (men's Golf)
The World Cup of Golf is a men's golf tournament contested by teams of two representing their country. Only one team is allowed from each country. The players are selected on the basis of the Official World Golf Ranking, although not all of the first choice players choose to compete. The equivalent event for women was the Women's World Cup of Golf, played from 2005 to 2008. 1997 Walker Cup
The 1997 Walker Cup, the 36th Walker Cup Match, was played on August 9 and 10, 1997, at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York. The event was won by the United States 18 to 6. Format The format for play on Saturday and Sunday was the same. There were four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. Each of the 24 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. Rather, each side earns ½ a point toward their team total. The team that accumulates at least 12½ points wins the competition. If the two teams are tied, the previous winner retains the trophy. The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Jacques Léglise Trophy
The Jacques Léglise Trophy is an annual amateur boys' team golf competition between Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It was first played in 1977, as a one-day match before the Boys Amateur Championship, but since 1996 it has been played as a separate two-day match. The venue generally alternates between Great Britain and Ireland and the continent. From 1958 to 1966 a similar match was played between a combined England and Scotland team and the Continent of Europe. History The event can trace its origins back to 1958. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious.
