David Paich
David Frank Paich (born June 25, 1954) is an American musician, best known as the co-founder, principal songwriter, keyboardist and singer of the rock band Toto since 1977. He wrote or co-wrote much of Toto's original material, including the band's three most popular songs: " Hold the Line", " Rosanna" and "Africa". With Toto, Paich has contributed to 17 albums and sold over 40 million records. He and guitarist and singer Steve Lukather are the only members to appear on every studio album. In addition, Paich has worked as a songwriter, session musician and producer with a host of artists including Boz Scaggs and Michael Jackson. Paich is the son of jazz composer, musician and arranger Marty Paich. ''Isolation'' is the first album to feature longtime bassist Mike Porcaro and the only album with Fergie Frederiksen as the primary vocalist. ''Isolation'' failed to achieve the popularity of its predecessor, ''Toto IV'', although it achieved gold record status and gave the band their highest charting mainstream rock single " Stranger in Town" (No. 7). Relatively few songs from this album were featured in live performances after 1985's Isolation World Tour. Joseph Stanley Williams (born September 1, 1960) is an American singer, songwriter and film score composer, best known for his work in the rock band Toto, which he fronted as lead vocalist from 1986 to 1988, 2010 to 2019 and again since 2020. He is a son of film composer John Williams and actress Barbara Ruick and a grandson of jazz drummer Johnny Williams and actors Melville Ruick and Lurene Tuttle. The album was released in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Toto's self-titled debut album (1978). ''40 Trips Around the Sun'' contains 14 tracks from 1978 to 1993, and three previously unreleased recordings ("Spanish Sea", "Alone" and "Struck by Lightning"). Steven Maxwell Porcaro (born September 2, 1957) is an American keyboardist, songwriter, and film composer, known as one of the founding members of the rock band Toto and the last surviving Porcaro brother (after the deaths of Jeff in 1992 and Mike in 2015); as the songwriter of "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson and songs by Toto; and as the composer of the TV series '' Justified''. "Miss Sun" is a 1980 hit for Boz Scaggs first recorded in 1977 by David Paich along with David Hungate, Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcaro. Background The four musicians were working as session musicians on Scaggs' ''Down Two Then Left'' album. They also worked on the self-titled album by Lisa Dalbello which was produced by David Foster. Dalbello - with whom Porcaro had formed a relationship - was invited to vocalize on the "Miss Sun" track, one of several demos which Lukather, Hungate, Paich and Porcaro cut at Davlen Studios. These demos led to the four musicians being signed to Columbia - Scaggs' label - as the nucleus of the group Toto.
