David Paddock
David Fleming Paddock (June 9, 1892 – May 23, 1962) was a college football player. Early years David Paddock was born on June 9, 1892 in Selma, Alabama to Smith Aaron Paddock and Jennie Fleming Cain. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Paddock attended the Peddie Institute of New Jersey. University of Georgia He was a prominent quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia from 1912 to 1915, earning All-Southern honors in 1913, 1914, and 1915. Paddock is the only player in school history to have a petition circulated by the student body requesting that he play for the Bulldogs. Selma, Alabama
Selma is a city in and the county seat of Dallas County, in the Black Belt region of south central Alabama and extending to the west. 1913 Georgia Bulldogs Football Team
The 1913 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia during the 1913 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. The Bulldogs completed the season with a 6–2 record. This team played Virginia for the first time since the tragic game of 1897 in which a Richard Von Albade Gammon died. Georgia also played its first game in Georgia Tech's new stadium (Grant Field), coming away with a victory. The 108–0 victory over Alabama Presbyterian in the first game of the season represents the largest margin of victory in Georgia football history. Charley Barrett
Charley "Chuck" Barrett (November 3, 1893 – May 21, 1924) was an American football player. He was the consensus All-American quarterback in 1914 and 1915 while playing for Cornell University and led Cornell to an undefeated season and national championship in 1915. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1958. Early years Barrett was born in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob McWhorter
Robert Ligon McWhorter (June 4, 1891 – June 29, 1960) played football and baseball at the University of Georgia. Early years McWhorter attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia. He played football and baseball there under coach Alex Cunningham. Their baseball team came up to Georgia and won 11–0. Georgia athletic chairman Dr. S. V. Sanford hired Cunningham that same day, and McWhorter followed. University of Georgia Football As a halfback, he scored 61 touchdowns from 1910 to 1913. In 1913, McWhorter became UGA’s first All-American. He was the captain of both the baseball and football teams in his senior year. He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, Phi Kappa Literary Society, and Phi Beta Kappa at Georgia. Sportswriter Dick Jemison said "When you mention football to an Athens fan its definition is Bob McWhorter, and vice-versa." All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running.
