David Ong
David Ong Kim Huat ( zh, s=王金发, p=Wáng Jīnfā; born 19 May 1961) is a Singaporean former politician who has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) (Bukit Batok), Adviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations (GROs) and Chairman of the Jurong Town Council since 2011. He resigned from his MP position on 12 March 2016 citing personal reasons in a letter which is published by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Early life and education Ong was born in Singapore on 19 May 1961, to a police officer and his wife, a homemaker. He grew up in a small housing flat in Queenstown and attended Margaret Drive Primary School and Gan Eng Seng School. Ong graduated from Tanjong Katong Secondary Technical School in 1979, going on to obtain a degree from the University of Oregon in 1986. Jurong Group Representation Constituency
The Jurong Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency located in the western area of Singapore. The GRC consists of a large section of Jurong, sections of Bukit Batok and areas near Upper Bukit Timah Road. The five divisions of the GRC: Bukit Batok East, Jurong Central, Taman Jurong, Jurong Spring and Clementi. The current MPs are Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Tan Wu Meng, Rahayu Mahzam, Shawn Huang and Xie Yao Quan from the People's Action Party (PAP). History In the 2011 general elections, the Jurong Central and Hong Kah division's population carved to form the new Jurong Spring division, while Yuhua became a SMC in return. 2016 Bukit Batok By-election
The 2016 Bukit Batok by-election was concluded on 7 May 2016, with Murali Pillai from the People's Action Party as the winning candidate. This followed the sudden resignation of David Ong Kim Huat of the People's Action Party on 12 March 2016. On 20 April, President Tony Tan issued the writ of election. On 27 April, two candidates were nominated, Murali Pillai of the People's Action Party, and Chee Soon Juan of the Singapore Democratic Party. Bukit Batok
Bukit Batok, often abbreviated as Bt Batok, is a planning area and matured residential town located along the eastern boundary of the West Region of Singapore. Bukit Batok statistically ranks in as the 25th largest, the 12th most populous and the 11th most densely populated planning area in the Republic. It is bordered by six other planning areas - Choa Chu Kang to the North, northeast and northwest, Cashew to the northeast and east, Clementi to the south, Bukit Timah to the southeast, Jurong East to the southwest and Tengah to the west. Bukit Batok largely sits on Gombak norite, a geological formation that is found in high concentrations within the planning area itself, as well as in the western parts of neighbouring Cashew.
