David Nish (businessman)
David Thomas Nish (born 5 May 1960) is a Scottish businessman. He is the former chief executive (CEO) of Standard Life, a British long term savings and investment company. Early life He was born and brought up in Barrhead, the son of a Royal Mail sorting office manager father (who died from a cerebral haemorrhage when Nish was just 17) and nurse mother. He was educated at Paisley Grammar School and the University of Glasgow, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in accountancy. Career He was CEO of Standard Life from November 2009 until August 2015, having joined on 1 November 2006 as group finance director. Barrhead
Barrhead ( sco, Baurheid, gd, Ceann a' Bharra) is a town in East Renfrewshire, Scotland, southwest of Glasgow city centre on the edge of the Gleniffer Braes. At the 2011 census its population was 17,268. History Barrhead was formed when a series of small textile-producing villages (Barrhead, Arthurlie, Grahamston and Gateside) gradually grew into one another to form one continuous town. According to local historian James McWhirter, the name "Barrhead" first appeared in 1750. Glanderston House, to the south, at one time belonged to the Stewart kings of Scotland. In 1851 there was an explosion at the Victoria Pit colliery in nearby Nitshill, killing 63 men and boys who worked in the mine, many of whom lived in Barrhead. The victims were buried in a mass grave in the yard at St John's Church on Darnley Road, and although some bodies were later exhumed and reburied in other cemeteries, some may still reside at St John's in an unmarked grave. Paisley Grammar School is a secondary school in Paisley, the largest town in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The school was founded in 1576 by royal charter of King James VI and is situated on Glasgow Road. The school is recognised as one of Scotland's oldest schools with an established history. The present school building (which was called the 'Paisley Grammar School and William B. Barbour Academy' due to a bequest by the former Member of Parliament for Paisley, William B.
