The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Certain Activities of the RCMP, better known as the McDonald Commission, was a Royal Commission called by the Canadian government of Pierre Trudeau to investigate the Royal Canadian Mounted Police after a number of illegal activities by the RCMP Security Service came to light in the 1970s. The Commission, Judge David Cargill McDonald, was established on 6 July 1977 and issued its final report in 1981. David McDonald (May 8, 1803 – August 25, 1869) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Indiana. Education and career Born in Millersburg, Kentucky, McDonald read law to enter the bar in 1830, and entered private practice in Washington, Indiana. He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1833 to 1834, and a prosecuting attorney of the 7th Judicial Circuit of Indiana from 1834 to 1837, thereafter returning to private practice until 1839. He was a Judge of the 10th Judicial Circuit of Indiana from 1839 to 1852, also serving as a Professor of law at Indiana University Bloomington from 1842 to 1852. David Wylie McDonald, (9 October 1927 – 8 March 2007) was a Scottish architect and a colonial civil servant. He was the Director of Public Works in Hong Kong and the first Secretary for Lands and Works. Biography Born on 9 October 1927 in Armadale, West Lothian, he was educated at Harris Academy, Dundee and volunteered for the Black Watch at the age of 17 in late 1944. One of his first postings was to guard the Princess Elizabeth at Balmoral where he served as a dancing partner and also part of the King's Guard in Inverness and Edinburgh. He took his architecture degree at Dundee College of Art and obtained a trainee job with a local architectural firm and married Eliza (Betty) Roberts Steele on 3 July 1951.
