Michelle Shocked (born Karen Michelle Johnston; February 24, 1962) is an American singer-songwriter. Her music has entered the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and received an award for Folk Album of the Year at the CMJ New Music Awards. Early life Shocked was born Karen Michelle Johnston on February 24, 1962, in Dallas, Texas, at the Baylor University Medical Center. Her stepfather was in the US Army and the family moved from base to base, eventually settling in Gilmer, Texas. She was raised in a Mormon family. ''Grave Dancers Union'' is the sixth studio album by American alternative rock band Soul Asylum and was released in 1992. The album spent 76 weeks on the US ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' music charts and was certified triple-platinum certification, platinum in 1993, establishing Soul Asylum as one of the most successful rock groups of the first half of the 1990s. Overview During recording of ''Grave Dancers Union'', producer Michael Beinhorn grew dissatisfied with drummer Grant Young (musician), Grant Young's performance and brought in Sterling Campbell. Soul Asylum
Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their 1993 hit "Runaway Train (Soul Asylum song), Runaway Train" won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. The band was originally called Loud Fast Rules, with a lineup consisting of Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy (musician), Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller (rock musician), Karl Mueller, and Pat Morley. They changed their name to Soul Asylum in 1983. Morley was replaced by Grant Young (musician), Grant Young in 1984. The band recorded three albums with Twin/Tone Records and two with A&M Records, with little commercial success. The Men were an American pop rock band from Santa Monica, California. Despite its name, the group actually had two females as members. The group released a self-titled album on Polygram Records in 1992 (produced and engineered by David Leonard), which hit #22 on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Heatseekers chart on the strength of the single "Church of Logic, Sin, and Love". ''When You're a Boy'' is the debut solo album by Susanna Hoffs. It begins with the ''Billboard'' Top 40 single "My Side of the Bed", includes the track "Unconditional Love" (co-written by Cyndi Lauper), and ends with a cover of " Boys Keep Swinging", the 1979 song written by David Bowie and Brian Eno. The album's title comes from the lyrics to the latter. The album peaked at No. 83 on the US albums chart. Susanna Hoffs
Susanna Lee Hoffs (born January 17, 1959) is an American singer and guitarist, best known as a co-founder of the pop-rock band The Bangles. Hoffs founded The Bangles (originally called the Bangs) in 1981 with Debbi and Vicki Peterson. They released their first full length album '' All Over the Place'' on Columbia Records in 1984. Hoffs started a solo career after The Bangles disbanded in 1989. She released her first solo album, '' When You're a Boy'', in 1991. ''Voices of Babylon'' is the third studio album by the British band The Outfield, released during the spring of 1989 and which spawned an eponymous single. It was the group's last album to feature drummer Alan Jackman until the release of ''Replay'' in 2011. It was also their final album on the Columbia label. Following the album's release, and with their commercial success slipping, the band parted ways with Jackman and hired Paul Read as a replacement for the album's tour. This album features a unique script similar to what is known as the Pigpen cipher. The Outfield were an English rock band based in London, England. The band achieved success in the mid-1980s and are best remembered for their hit single, " Your Love". The band's lineup consisted of guitarist John Spinks, vocalist and bassist Tony Lewis, and drummer Alan Jackman. Belinda Carlisle
Belinda Jo Carlisle ( ; born August 17, 1958) is an American singer. She gained fame as the lead vocalist of the Go-Go's, the most successful all-female rock band of all time, and went on to have a prolific career as a solo artist. Raised in Southern California, Carlisle became the lead vocalist of the Go-Go's after the band's formation in 1978. With their chart-topping debut studio album '' Beauty and the Beat'' in 1981, the group helped popularize new wave music in the United States.
