David J. Burney
David Burney is a public architect and educator. He was born in Liverpool, England and educated at Edinburgh College of Art and The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment of University College London (UCL). He is the Academic Coordinator of Urban Placemaking and Management at Pratt Institute and serves as a commissioner at the New York City Department of City Planning. He has lived in New York since 1982. Education and career Mr. Burney is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects (2008), and Academic Coordinator and Associate Professor of the Graduate Center for Planning of Pratt Institute School of Architecture. Children's Library Discovery Center
The Children's Library Discovery Center, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, is an addition to the Queens Central Library building. It was commissioned by the New York City Department of Design & Construction and completed in 2011 under the New York City Design and Construction Excellence program. The center is the Queens Borough Public Library system's largest facility. With a $1.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation, the center recruited specialists from the Exploratorium in San Francisco to design hands-on "discovery stations". The stations, geared toward children ages 3–12, introduce them to diverse topics such as weather, music, and nanotechnology. James Polshek
James Stewart Polshek (February 11, 1930September 9, 2022) was an American architect based in New York City. He was the founder of Polshek Partnership, the firm at which he was the principal design partner for more than four decades. He worked as design counsel to the legacy firm Ennead Architects, as well as being actively engaged as design lead on multiple projects. Early life Polshek was born in Akron, Ohio, on February 11, 1930. His father, Max, was the owner of an army-navy store; his mother, Pearl (Beyer), was a housewife. Polshek initially intended to study medicine, enrolling in premed at Case Western Reserve University's Adelbert College in 1947. He began taking a variety of courses, including a course on the history of modern architecture. Bushwick
Bushwick is a neighborhood in the northern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. George Ranalli
George Joseph Ranalli (born 1946) is an American modernist architect, scholar, curator, and fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He is based in New York City. Early life and education A native of The Bronx, New York, of Italian American descent, he was inspired to become an architect at the age of about 13 when he saw the then-unfinished Guggenheim Museum, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Ranalli attended Mount Saint Michael Academy high school in New York City and graduated in 1964. From 1967 to 1968, he attended New York Institute of Technology, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, where he received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1972. Brownsville is a residential neighborhood in eastern Brooklyn in New York City.
