David Ferraris
__NOTOC__ David E. Ferraris (born 18 August 1963, in South Africa) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer in Hong Kong. Born into a racing family, his father, Ormond Ferraris, was a champion trainer in South African racing. He won the South African trainers' title on four occasions, netting 25 Grade 1 victories in well over 1000 wins with the champions Classic Flag and Celtic Grove his most outstanding performers. Among his notable wins were the 1997 and 1998 Durban July Handicaps, he trained the winners Super Quality and Classic Flag. The Durban July is considered to be South Africa's premier race. Ferraris has won nearly every major race on the South African racing calendar. Viva Pataca () (foaled 7 May 2002) is a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse, who achieved his greatest success when trained in Hong Kong. Background Bred by the Dukes of Devonshire and Roxburghe, he was out of the mare Comic and sired by English Group One winner, Marju. He was purchased by Neil Greig - Osborne House for 26,000 guineas at the 2003 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and given the name "Comic Strip." Racing career 2004–2005: Britain Trained by Sir Mark Prescott at age two, Comic Strip won five of his six starts. After winning his last start in the October 2004 Silver Tankard Stakes, he did not run again until the end of July in 2005 when he finished fourth in a Handicap for three-year-olds at Goodwood Racecourse. Vengeance of Rain (21 September 2000 – 25 October 2011) was a Thoroughbred racehorse in Hong Kong that won Dubai Sheema Classic (Int'l Group One (G1) over 2,400 metres), the joint richest turf race in the world. Vengeance of Rain was foaled in New Zealand, trained by David E. Ferraris, ridden mostly by Anthony Delpech and owned by Raymond Gianco Chow Hon Man & Chow Chu May Ping. He was raced in Australia under the name Subscribe before being sold by his owner Lloyd Williams. Vengeance of Rain's total stakes were over $7.9 million which rated in top 10 of the world. The Hong Kong Jockey Club made a website for Vengeance of Rain on 13 April 2007. The Hong Kong Jockey Club also published the special edition octopus card for Vengeance of Rain on 30 May 2007. Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup
Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup is a Hong Kong Thoroughbred horse race held annually in late May or early June at Sha Tin Racecourse. A Group One race that offers a purse of HK$12,000,000, it is run on turf over a distance of 2400 meters (prior to 1995 it was disputed over 2200 meters and prior to 1992 over 1800 meters) and is open to horses three years of age and older. The third leg of the Hong Kong Triple Crown, it follows the Steward's Cup in January and the Hong Kong Gold Cup in February. The Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup was first run in 1870 as "The Champion Stakes" but would become known as "The Chater Cup" in honor of renowned Hong Kong businessman and racehorse owner, Sir Paul Chater. Hong Kong Classic Mile
The Hong Kong Classic Mile is a domestic Group 1 four year old set weights Thoroughbred horse race in Hong Kong, run over a distance of 1600 metres. It was originally a Group 3 race and was the traditional lead-up race for the Hong Kong Derby. In the season of 1999/2000, this race was upgraded to domestic Group 1 status. Nad Al Sheba Racecourse
Nad Al Sheba Racecourse was Thoroughbred horse racing facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates opened in 1986. It had a 2,200 m left-handed dirt race track and a left-handed turf course of the same distance. It operated from November through March and featured the Dubai International Racing Carnival and its Dubai World Cup Night. Nad Al Sheba Racecourse was demolished in 2009 following hosting the Dubai World Cup race, being replaced by Meydan Racecourse.
