Emrys Evans
Sir David Emrys Evans (29 March 1891 – 20 February 1966) was a Welsh classicist and university principal. Life Evans, from Clydach, Glamorgan, was educated at Ystalyfera County School, before going on to University College, Bangor, and then Jesus College, Oxford, where he obtained a B. Litt. degree. He taught at the secondary school in Pentre from 1918, before becoming assistant lecturer in classics at Bangor. In 1921, he was appointed as the first professor of classics at Swansea University, and later succeeded Sir Henry Reichel as Principal of Bangor. He also served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales and as deputy chairman of the Boundary Commission for Wales. In the latter years of the Second World War he served as Chair of the Central Advisory Council for Education (Wales), and also chaired the Schools Broadcasting Council (Wales). David Mylor Evans (born 20 June 1934) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Richmond in Melbourne to grazier Evan Mylor Evans and Constance Muriel, ''née'' Burton-Bradley. He graduated from Melbourne Grammar School and farmed on the family property from 1951. A member of the National Party, he served as a central party councillor from 1966 to 1980 and state president in 1976, as well as a member of Oxley Shire Council from 1967 to 1976. In 1976 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for North Eastern. He was parliamentary spokesman on lands from 1976 to 1982, on forests and conservation from 1976 to 1992, on environment from 1983 to 1992 and on economic development from 1982 to 1983; he was also Deputy President of the Legislative Council from 1992 to 1996, when he retired from politics. Hywel David Evans AM (20 December 1924 – 3 September 2019) was an Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1968 to 1989, representing the seat of Warren. He was a deputy leader of the party on two occasions, and was a minister in the governments of John Tonkin and Brian Burke. Early life Evans was born in Penygraig, Glamorgan, Wales, and came to Australia as a child. His family settled in Pemberton, a small town in the South West, and he went on to attend Bunbury High School. Evans enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in January 1943, and saw service as a warrant officer in New Guinea and the South-West Pacific. Fayne and Evans were an English comedy duo who were popular in the late 1940s and 1950s. They were Tony Fayne (born Anthony Terence Alfred Senington; 18 January 1924–30 November 2009) and David Evans (David Frank Evans; 10 March 1922–14 February 1980). History They were both born in Bristol, and studied together at Bristol Cathedral School. Together, they devised a routine of impersonations, and won a talent contest in 1940, after which they appeared on Jack Payne's BBC radio show, ''Your Company is Requested''. They were called up for military service, and both served in the Fleet Air Arm, but did not meet up again until they were both working as insurance clerks in 1948, and decided to revive their act. ''Fever Pitch'' is a 1997 film starring Colin Firth and Ruth Gemmell, based loosely on Nick Hornby's best-selling memoir, '' Fever Pitch: A Fan's Life'' (1992). Plot Hornby adapted the book for the screen and fictionalised the story, concentrating on Arsenal's First Division championship-winning season in 1988–89 and its effect on the protagonist's romantic relationship. Firth plays Paul Ashworth, the character based on Hornby, a teacher at a school in south Hertfordshire and his romance with Sarah Hughes (Ruth Gemmell), a new teacher who joins Ashworth's school.
