David Colvin (rower)
David Colvin (born 4 November 1961) is an Australian former rowing coxswain and a rowing coach. He is a ten-time Australian King's Cup champion, an Olympian and a medalist at World Rowing Championships. State and club rowing Colvin was educated at Melbourne Grammar School where he was introduced to rowing. He steered that school's second VIII to a victory at the Victorian schools' Head of the River in 1979. His senior club rowing was initially from the Banks Rowing Club in Melbourne starting in 1980, and from 1988 at the Mercantile Rowing Club. Colvin was first selected to cox the Victorian men's eight contesting the 1985 King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. Between 1985 and 2000 he coxed twelve Victorian King's Cup crews. The coxswain ( , or ) is the person in charge of a boat, particularly its navigation and steering. The etymology of the word gives a literal meaning of "boat servant" since it comes from ''cock'', referring to the cockboat, a type of ship's boat, and ''swain'', an Old English term derived from the Old Norse ''sveinn'' meaning boy or servant. In 1724, a "cockswain" was defined as "An officer of a ship who takes care of the cockboat, barge or shallop, with all its furniture, and is in readiness with his crew to man the boat on all occasions." Henley Royal Regatta
Henley Royal Regatta (or Henley Regatta, its original name pre-dating Royal patronage) is a rowing event held annually on the River Thames by the town of Henley-on-Thames, England. It was established on 26 March 1839. It differs from the three other regattas rowed over approximately the same course, Henley Women's Regatta, Henley Masters Regatta, and Henley Town and Visitors' Regatta, each of which is an entirely separate event.
