David Roberts (painter)
David Roberts (24 October 179625 November 1864) was a Scottish painter. He is especially known for ''The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia'', a prolific series of detailed lithograph prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838–1840). These and his large oil paintings of similar subjects made him a prominent Orientalist painter. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841. Early life Apprenticed for seven years to a house painter and decorator named Gavin Beugo, his fellow apprentice being David Ramsay Hay, who became a lifelong friend. During this time he studied art in the evenings. After his apprenticeship was complete, Roberts's first paid job came in the summer of 1815, when he moved to Perth to serve as foreman for the redecoration of Scone Palace. Dave Roberts (full name David Robert Roberts; born 31 July 1964 in Middlesbrough, England) is a UK-based former TV executive and ex-presenter and commentator specialising in association football. He previously worked for Fox Sports News and ESPN Star Sports in Singapore, ESPN in the USA and Sky Sports in the UK as well as a host of UK radio stations. As well as his broadcast work, he is a fully qualified International football referee. He owns and operates his own UK based broadcast production company X-Cel Broadcast Limited. His invention, the caterpillar track, was demonstrated to the army in 1907. Sir David Arthur Roberts, KBE, CMG, CVO (8 August 1924 – 7 June 1987) was a British career diplomat who was ambassador to Lebanon, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. Career David Roberts was educated at Hereford Cathedral School and Jesus College, Oxford. After wartime service in the Royal Armoured Corps he joined the Diplomatic Service in 1947. David Wyn Roberts (1911 in Cardiff, Wales – 8 November 1982) was a British architect and educator, who designed more university buildings for Cambridge University than any other architect. With a modernist practice based in Cambridge, he also designed many city housing projects, schools, and private residences.
