David Lewis (born February 6, 1960 in Totnes, Devon) is a British scholar who iProfessor of Anthropology and Developmentat the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Background David Lewis grew up in Bearsden, near Glasgow, Scotland, and in the city of Bath in the west of England. He read Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge (1982). He has a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Bath (1989). Before becoming a lecturer at the London School of Economics & Political Science in 1995, he was briefly a freelance development researcher and consultant. At LSE he worked at the Centre for Voluntary Organisation (CVO, later Centre for Civil Society) until 2006 when he moved into the Department of Social Policy. David Alan Lewis (born c. 1960) is an Australian-born jazz and pop trumpeter, pianist and composer from Hamilton, Victoria. He relocated to France in 1982 where he has joined various groups and toured Europe, Africa and Australia. He has performed and composed musical theatre and cabaret. Lewis has collaborated with singer and accordionist Belle du Berry since 1994 and both joined music group, Paris Combo, which released five albums from 1998 to 2005. David Lewis (1814–1895) was a Welsh Anglican priest and academic who converted to Roman Catholicism under the influence of John Henry Newman. Life Lewis was born in Ceredigion, Wales, and educated at Jesus College, Oxford, from 1834 onwards, graduating in 1837. He then became a Fellow of the college in 1839, a position he held until 1846 (serving as vice-principal 1845–46). After his ordination, he was curate of St Mary's Church under John Henry Newman, and was part of the Oxford Movement, converting to Catholicism in 1846. He later settled in Arundel and studied canon law. He translated ''The Rise and Growth of the Anglican Schism'' by Nicholas Sanders from Latin (1877) and writings of St John of the Cross from Spanish (1864). David Lewis, S.J. (1616 – 27 August 1679) was a Jesuit Catholic priest and martyr who was also known as Charles Baker. Lewis was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1970 as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales and is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. His feast day is celebrated on 27 August.
