Bass Guitars
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Since the mid-1950s, the bass guitar has largely replaced the double bass in popular music. The four-string bass is usually tuned the same as the double bass, which corresponds to pitches one octave lower than the four lowest-pitched strings of a guitar (typically E, A, D, and G). It is played primarily with the fingers or thumb, or with a pick. To be heard at normal performance volumes, electric basses require external amplification. Terminology According to the ''New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians'', an "Electric bass guitar sa Guitar, usually with four heavy strings tuned E1'–A1'–D2–G2." It also defines ''bass'' as "Bass (iv). A contraction of Double bass o ...

Terminal Velocity (album)
''Terminal Velocity'' is the second studio album by Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci, released digitally on August 28, 2020 and on October 30, 2020 for the physical version (vinyl and CD). This is his first solo album since 2005's ''Suspended Animation''. During the recording sessions, Petrucci was reunited with his former Dream Theater bandmate Mike Portnoy, making it their first collaboration since the latter left the band in 2010. Bassist Dave LaRue, who performed on ''Suspended Animation'', returns for this album. Petrucci planned to start working on the album in the second trimester of the year, but he ended up using the unexpected free time resulting from the New York COVID-19 lockdowns to write the songs. The whole writing and recording process took two months starting in March. Some of the tracks ("Happy Song", "Glassy-Eyed Zombies") are new versions of songs Petrucci used to play live with G3, while "Gemini" has been used by the guitarist on soundchecks, guitar cli ...

Suspended Animation (John Petrucci Album)
''Suspended Animation'' is the first studio album by Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci, released independently in 2005 through Sound Mind Music. The songs "Jaws of Life", "Glasgow Kiss" and "Damage Control" have been played during the G3 tour, and the latter two are featured as openers to the 2005 DVD and live album '' G3: Live in Tokyo''. Some releases of the album have "Curve" split into two separate tracks, with the majority of the song on track six and the latter portion on track seven. On these editions, "Lost Without You" and "Animate-Inanimate" form tracks eight and nine respectively. The correct track listing, without the aforementioned anomalies, is shown below. Critical reception Mark Sabbatini at All About Jazz gave ''Suspended Animation'' a mixed review, initially criticizing some songs as sounding like "what feels like a market-driven formula for success." He nonetheless noted "Animate-Inanimate" as a highlight, while praising Petrucci's guitar tone, which he d ...

Southern Steel (album)
''Southern Steel'' is the fourth studio album by the American guitarist Steve Morse, released in 1991. "Cut to the Chase" appeared on the soundtrack to ''Ski Patrol''. "Simple Simon" was a minor heavy metal radio hit. Morse promoted the album with a North American tour. Production Morse, who wrote all of the album's songs, was backed by drummer Van Romaine and bass player Dave LaRue. Morse first worked on the music for "Arena Rock" during his time with Kansas. Critical reception The ''Calgary Herald'' wrote: "Obviously an ardent Jeff Beck fan, this one rings with everything Beckish except Jan Hammer." The ''Chicago Tribune'' determined that "the album is fast and heavy hick-rock and though it goes through plenty of chord and tempo changes, Morse's fingers never get cold." The ''Austin American-Statesman'' deemed the album Morse's "most mainstream rock to date." The ''Los Angeles Times'' called it "instrumental rock in overdrive but with conspicuous intelligence in the driver's se ...
