Legislative Assembly Of Manitoba
The Legislative Assembly of Manitoba (french: Assemblée législative du Manitoba) is the deliberative assembly of the Manitoba Legislature in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Fifty-seven members are elected to this assembly at provincial general elections, all in single-member constituencies with first-past-the-post voting. Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Manitoba, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. The Manitoba Legislative Building is located in central Winnipeg. The Premier of Manitoba is Heather Stefanson and the current Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba is Myrna Driedger; both of whom belong to the Progressive Conservative Party. Marilyn Brick
Marilyn Brick is a former politician in Manitoba, Canada. She served in the Manitoba legislature from 2003 to 2011, representing St. Norbert. Brick was educated at the University of Manitoba, graduating from the university's Bachelor of Physical Education program and receiving a Continuing Education Division Certificate in Human Resource Management. She has been involved in a number of community programs, serving as President of the Richmond Kings Community Centre and as a member of the Manitoba Parks and Recreation Association Board of Governors. Brick has also founded a day care advocacy group, received a Citation Award for volunteer service to the Red Cross, and served on the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500. Jon Reyes (born 1971 or 1972) is a Canadian politician and member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. He currently serves as Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration since January, 2022, and was previously the Minister of Economic Development and Jobs. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba (french: Nouveau Parti démocratique du Manitoba) is a social-democratic political party in Manitoba, Canada. It is the provincial wing of the federal New Democratic Party, and is a successor to the Manitoba Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. It is currently the opposition party in Manitoba. Formation and early years In the federal election of 1958, the national Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) was reduced to only eight seats in the House of Commons of Canada. The CCF's leadership restructured the party during the next three years, and in 1961 it merged with the Canadian Labour Congress to create the New Democratic Party (NDP). Most provincial wings of the CCF also transformed themselves into "New Democratic Party" organisations before the year was over, with Saskatchewan as the only exception. Franco-Manitobans (french: Franco-Manitobains) are French Canadians or Canadian francophones living in the province of Manitoba. According to the 2016 Canadian Census, 40,975 residents of the province stated that French was their mother tongue. In the same census, 148,810 Manitobans claimed to have either full or partial French ancestry. There are several Franco-Manitoban communities throughout Manitoba, although the majority are based in either the Winnipeg Capital Region or the Eastman Region. The first francophones to enter the region were fur traders during the late 17th century, with the first French settlers arriving in the subsequent century. Francophones constituted the majority of the region's non-First Nations population until the mid 19th century, when anglophones became the linguistic majority.
