Data Garden
Data Garden is an arts organization and independent record label formed by Joe Patitucci and Alex Tyson in 2011. Label activity In conjunction with releasing music downloads on plantable artwork, Data Garden has produced installations and events at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Noguchi Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, SXSW Festival, and Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia, among others. Data Garden has received grants from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. In 2014, Data Garden launched the MIDI Sprout, a bio-sonification device. The converter enables musicians to use plants and other living matter as MIDI triggers for electronic music and research. The device was developed with engineer Sam Cusumano and was inspired by the work of Richard Lowenberg, Cleve Backster and Mileece. Guardian Alien
Guardian Alien is a music project started by drummer Greg Fox. There have been many collaborators since the project's inception in 2010, and it is currently the duo of Fox and Alexandra Drewchin. Background Guardian Alien was formed in 2010 by Greg Fox, former drummer of Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, the black metal band Liturgy, and others. They played several shows throughout 2010 and 2011 in Brooklyn, New York and released their self-titled debut album exclusively on vinyl during the same year. Man Man is an American experimental rock band from Philadelphia currently based in Los Angeles. Their multi-instrumental style is centered on the piano playing of lead singer, songwriter, and lyricist Honus (Ryan Kattner). Honus is accompanied by a group of multi-instrumentalist musicians and vocalists. Christopher Powell (musician)
Christopher Powell (stage name Pow Pow) is a musical artist from Philadelphia. He has been the drummer and percussionist for experimental rock groups Bent Leg Fatima and Need New Body, the equally adventurous music group Man Man, and the Chicago sextet Icy Demons. After Need New Body disbanded, Powell joined Man Man before recording the group's second album, "Six Demon Bag." He has played on all albums since as well as at all live shows, making him the second most consistent and oldest member (lead singer Ryan Kattner, a.k.a. Honus Honus, being the first). Christopher participated as drummer 11 in the Boredoms 77 Boadrum performance which occurred on 7 July 2007 at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn, New York. King Britt (born 1968) is an American educator, DJ and record producer from Philadelphia. Biography Britt is a 1986 graduate of Central High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1987, he started working at Tower Records, as a buyer for the singles/import section. His extensive knowledge of dance music made him an in demand buyer in the company. He went on to make many connections in the music community, bringing in records and new labels from all over the world. King attended Temple University. In 1990, King Britt began his first DJ residency at the Silk City in Philadelphia and the now defunct Revival. These two DJ residencies would help change the course of dance music in Philadelphia and lay the foundation for King's musical future. Boredoms () (later known as V∞redoms) is a rock band from Osaka, Japan formed in 1986. The band's sound is often referred to as noise rock, or sometimes Japanoise (Japan’s noise music scene), though their more recent records have moved toward repetitive psychedelic rock, ambient soundscapes, and tribal drumming. The band has a vast and sometimes confusing discography. Many band members have rotated through the group over the years, often using a number of various stage names. Zs (pronounced ) is a Brooklyn, New York-based experimental band. Since the band's inception, Zs has incarnated as everything from a sextet to a duo, now solidified into the quartet of Patrick Higgins (electric guitar), Greg Fox (percussion), Sam Hillmer (tenor saxophone) and Michael Beharie (electronics). Grover Cleveland "Cleve" Backster Jr. (February 27, 1924 – June 24, 2013) was an interrogation specialist for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), best known for his experiments with plants using a polygraph instrument in the 1960s which led to his theory of primary perception where he claimed that plants feel pain and have extrasensory perception (ESP), which was widely reported in the media.
